Topic: cdj & mixer to vdj

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi i currently have a Numark CDMix 3 which ive been told isnt compatible with VDJ. also i dont very much like the set up of this type of controller so i want to change to an external mixer and two cdjs. My question is how do i get this to run with VDJ? do i need to get timecode CDs? do i need to get a mixer with Midi capabilities? or a USB capable mixer? or even a combination of any of these? hope someone can help.

Yes, you can use CDJ 800's or 1000's to control VirtualDJ via timecode CD's. You will need VirtualDJ Pro http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html and a suitable 4-in/4-out sound card such as Hercules DJ Trim, Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ, ESI Maya44 USB, etc.

The Numark DJIO is not suitable for timecode because it has no inputs.

Alternatively, if you purchase CDJ 400, 900 or 2000, these are MIDI controllers that can control the software directly. They also each have a built-in sound card.
