Do any of you guys use anti-virus Software on your gigging Machines? I use Avast 4.8 and was wondering if Anti-viruses use alot of memory from the system and if it's recommended. If you do can you recommend a simple one that doesn't hug resources (Not saying Avast in consuming). Would more appreciate experienced persons to answer.

I never use anti-virus at all.
Avoiding porn, warez, gaming & gambling websites is the best free antivirus out there (and not clicking executables received on P2P or emails)
AV just slows down a PC horrendously and my personal opinion is that if you're on Windows with the default firewall enabled and avoid dodgy sites there's no problem.
Don't be scared by the claims of AV companies, those scare stories make them billions every year :)

Try AVG
I have AVG installed on all 3 of my home machine's (2 PC's and 1 laptop). My giging laptop hasn't got any AV on as it never goes online (apart from Windows Update)
Been using AVG for about 4 year's now and never had any virus's or any problems with it slowing down my systems.
P.S
There is a free version which a couple of friends (mobile DJ's) have on there Gigging laptop. It's quite basic but they have never had any problems with it.

My advice is avoid the free ones as they usually only give you basic protection.
Avoid norton also, as it does too much in the background, and has been known to slow things down..
I have Symantec Endpoint Protection.

I use avast 5.0 and I like that.
With the 5.0 version, you will have less memory used and actually they released this new version in order to get better performances with old computer too.

I have Avast running on my gig machine with auto update. "YOUR VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED" in a deep voice.
If I'm in a wireless zone at a dance and a cute chick is dying to hear a song. Download time. Maybe I'll get a kiss. But I feel safer running Avast. I loaded it on my other machines as well as other peoples machines. No complaints.

Avast gets my vote also, but I always have antivirus disabled while DJing. Use that as a good excuse not to play store drives people try to bring to a gig occasionally.

I use Avast 5 without any problems.
You can disable the voice announcements in the settings.

Personally I would choose ZenOK Free Antivirus, been using its scanner... works well for me and does not suck system performance like the commercial ones. Plus it's free....download from its website http://freeantivirus.zenok.com/
