i never changed my os using xp since got laptop bout 5 years ago.as already stated it your configs and laptop you need to sort out before using live.i had major hiccup(as the giys here know from my questions lol) but after tweaking and understanding the software no problems.did however change hardrive on laptop and nothing since even using videos karaoke clipbanks scrolltext ect with confidence after all the updates.
have a mac also but as yet havent used live
 
My laptop has XP Pro on a dual-core, which is brilliant for this software... can you get XP and stick it on your computer... its very fast compared with Vista32 bit...

What some people dont seem to understand is... Its really about which OS gives the lowest Latency. All Os can work fine and some have lower latency's than others. As a dj, Lower latency is better. You want better responce time. If Denon, Pioneer, Serato and many more recomend XP. They must know what they are talking about.
 
After reading all the post n replies. let me share my experienced. I haven't tried XP as yet to run VDJ but I have run VDJ on Win 7 32 bit with no prob. I got a toshiba 64bit wit Win 7 Pro and did a gig for 6 hours and VDJ freezed; I couldn't load a song . . . couldn't do nothing so I had to restart VDJ while the crown was dance so not good. Someone told to have two copies of VDJ install to avoid such delima again as that what they do but I will give XP a shot as I like XP :)
 
Thats not because of the 64-bit windows, that will be a different issue.

This topic is however over a year old now ;)
 
64 bit uses more resources and thats why it allows you to add more ram. Anything running on 64 bit, the computer has to have higher specs than another one running 32 bit.

XP Pro for me as well!
Hey Guys, let's just hope Microsoft continues to support Windows XP. The day they don't, it's possible I won't be a very happy camper. (No Windows "Updates" in the future probably means no more VirtualDJ on a WinXP platform, correct me if I am wrong.)

"best operating system" depends on the hardware and corresponding drivers..
Some of the newer video cards and motherboards don't even have XP drivers available.. so its a moot point..

IF and I mean IF you can get the correct drivers for the computer, then XP is still the best.. (I base this on how windows 7 uses the ram VS how windows xp does it.. )

But unless your experienced with building computers , my best advice is to run the OS the machine came with..
 
If you want to play it safe.. Any OS running 32 bit is better because it uses less resources.

Well XP is coming to the end of its life but you still have a short time to enjoy it. 4/8/2014 is the true end of support for Win XP. It was originally slated to have stopped in 2011 but was given one final extension. After this date its history unless you want to use it fully unsupported with no updates.
 
Hi y'all I just made a clean copy of XP on my toshiba and it is very responsive with 3gb of ram and ATI Radeon graphic video card AMD x2 with only VDJ and 3 other programs installed. VDJ is very responsive and i must agree 32 bit is the best option for VDJ as i have a Dell with WIN7 32 bit and havent have any issue as yet. I got the Toshiba only for DJing only. tomorrow I got a wedding gig to play so I will test VDJ running on XP:) . hopefully one day I can upgrade from the FREE Edition to Pro as our currency is lower than U.S $$ and DJing doesnt pay much here in Belize.
 
im currently running on W7 and Vista, both of which i have had no problems with on my laptops, my W7 is on a netbook and runs pretty smooth. although i do believe it would benefit from a downgrade to xp, i am reluctant to do so due to having a legit version of 7 on there.

i do have a few xp keys on some old desktops in the ttic and one on my daughters netbook that i could use but i honestly cant be bothered with it.

i would like to upgrade my vista laptop though which is my main rig. i think it would benefit from having 7 installed.

ooh btw back to the point, i prefer 7, but xp is superb for running vdj due to its low system requirements. 7 needs 1gb ram almost just for the OS. compared to the 64mb that xp needs. so your system hardwre is much more efficient with xp.

@ pskeens,

Well if April 2014 is the end of Microsoft / WinXP operating system support, I can live with that. I'm sure I will be using a different lappy by that time.

is this possible? and how would it work? if vdj freezes then usually it has something to do with the cpu maxing out, therefore an attempt to load another instance of the software technically shoud increase the time it takes to return to normal.
