Topic: Timecode | Needles & Cartridges

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I've bought some Stanton T.60 decks. so i can learn to scratch. These have pritty good torque at around 4.5 iirc.

The decks come with NO Cartridges and no Needle.

I'm assuming that the Cartridge hold's the needle?, the cartridge connects to the 'Arm'? (I'm a n00b, still learning)

My main question is, can any needle and cartridge do? I'm only using it for timecode so the Serato Vinyl won't actually be playing any sound, it will be a input signal to the needle right? So the needle don't have to be top quality or anything as its only receiving a 'Signal' from the vinyl?

Thanks
Dan

most will do. but imo, get good ones thatll last, especially for new people to scratching, you want one with good tracking and no skip... non DJ people have heavy hands... lol

but 1. any WILL do, but for scratching look for shures, otrofons, etc. shure m447 and m44gs are usually the standard, BTW youre going to need to buy the cartridge and styli... ebay that
2. the serato vinyl plays a timecode - like a constant beep that allows the tracking of music.
3. again, needle dosnt need to be top quality for SOUND, but for scratching, you want a good tracking one, and other that also does not wear down your vinyl that much.

a set of shure m44-7s with headshells/cartridge, needle (stylus) will go for around 130-150.

if you dont want to install it yourself to the headshell of the turntable, i suggest you buy 2 of these

Most big DJ's ask for Ortofon Concorde Pro needles. I bought a pair too and they performed really well.

Geeeee's.... There £45 alone for the needle.... After all, like lamont76 said, its only for picking up a "consent beep"

true, but its the anti skipping that you're paying for. if youre gonna go cheaper, look at the numark and stantons... they might be better for learning and not performing yet.

i would NOT suggest the ebay ones... sanyo needle? wtf? haha

actually, after looking at the picture, shit for the price just buy them. might not last you and you might need replacement vinyls soon, but hell its worth a try. good luck
