Topic: How many songs can VDJ Handle?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello all,
I am looking at virtual dj for my new music platform. currently i am using a custom version of another software, because the database could not handle my library. I am looking now at this for some of the new options it has. In total I have about 300,000 Files. 250,000 music and 50,000 karaoke and a few hundred video. - Yes all legally bought, mostly from bankrupt music stores. Its in a mix of 320 MP3 and Flac and a few lower quality from many many years back when i knew no better.

Can virtual dj handle a library of this size, or do i just need to stick to what i have?

thereis a trial version available for 28 days. but to answer your question of course it will handle your collection.

WOW, I thought I had a lot and I am at around 95,000. That would and must be an awesome collection, but I would never for see any problems.

Ok, I will have to try it out then. The problem that i always had run into before is the database would run very very slow and it would lock up the computer when it had to update any info in the database. Does virtual dj use 1 database or multiple databases in a hybrid?

I only know of one database for all media in VDJ, But that's an Idea that may have some advantages?
Audio, Video, Karaoke Databases Hmmm...

I would like to see a Venue folder that could be nested, That's an Advantage Quick show Delivery Hmmm...

i'll bet it takes 2 days to scan all those songs

Yes, it can handle a library bigger than that... mine.

I'm running a total of four external hard drives for a total of 4.5 gigs and three of my drives are at near capacity. I have music on two drives, karaoke on the third and music videos on the fourth, and yes... all on a powered USB hub.

Multiple! VDJ creates a database at the top level folder of each drive you've connected to it when you start VDJ, where you've got music, etc. stored. This database file only references the data on that particular drive. (Important point if you're doing backups!!). Not sure what the limit is before you start to see performance issues, (and this probably depends on your system spec, I/O speeds, level of fragmentation, etc.) but if you start to hit any performance issues related to database size, just split your data over multiple disks!

LOL, yeah I did!! "Terabyte", not a new word but becoming more commonplace in our vernacular... gotta get "gigs" outta my mind unless were talking "paid DJ gigs" lol

I meant 4.5 terabytes on 4 hard drives with three of the drives near capacity. Three single terabyte drives and one 1.5 terabyte drive, yeah, that's it!

Acctually i have... 3TB of videos... 2TB mp3 and Wav and no problems at all...

Yeah it might not be a problem adding so many songs. But what I noticed was that, vdj calculated and showed the total number of songs after every addition until I got to 10,000. From here, vdj does not show the total number of songs after further additions so how do I know the total number of songs added so far?

Oh yes it does. I exceeded 10,000 songs years ago, and VDJ still shows a grand total.

If you want to see every song, then simply search for * (put a * in the search area).

What version of VDJ are you using (name and number)?

By the way, congratulations on digging up a very old thread from 2009! (Did you Google?)

Yes, very old. Just to add a final not. I have 8TB of internal drives. One drive shows 32,716 in VDJ. I don't know what the limit is, but it's a lot.
