I can't get karaoke mp3 + G tracks working on my VDJ v5.2.1. In fact, my VDJ doesn't even recognize the mp3 part of the tracks. I was with a friend today who had her computer with the same version and she had the karaoke tracks working great, with the words coming up on the screen. I checked the VDJ settings in both computers and they looked exactly the same.
Anyone know what I'm missing that's causing the problem? Thanks a lot!

Was it your karaoke tracks that worked on the other stup?

No, it was hers. Would it make a difference?

Convert them to a single file, "zip" files are more manageable becasue they are in a single format combining audio & video. I just did a video on this subject. Actually it's in four parts but the part you would be interested in is part 3. "Karaoke & VDJ - Converting CD+Gs to zip"
The first two are how to rip CDG discs to CD+G (what you have), the third is about converting them to zip and the fourth video is about configuring & playing them in VDJ and adding album covers.

I'm afraid I must disagree with you on that one Rude...I stopped using zips a while back because they don't properly work with the karaoke plugin. As long as they are properly zipped, they seem to work in VDJ, but some folks are having a boatlod of trouble wih their zips.
Yes, it does make a difference because if your files worked on the other setup, then you'd know that the files themselves were okay. Maybe you should try a few of yours on that setup and see if they work so you have a foundation to test from.

I've read too, which is strange to me because I must have over 100,000 karaoke zip files and I don't have a single problem with even one of them. Why do you suppose that is. It may be possible that they don't have VDJ properly configured to play zips.
The codec/reader settings may be incorrect or they are not using the proper compression software.

My zipped filed works fine with 5.2.1 but will only play the mp3 file on 6.0.1.
Djcell has checked one of the files and he tells me they play fine on his system however no explanation yet as why they won't work on my two Lappys under 6.0.1. Both lappys are independent of each other so I can't blame it on other software as one just has the OS and VDJ.
I remember we have had this issue when 5.0 and had to uninstall Vistas own unzipping feature, I wonder if this is the issue again in 6.0.1. Would like the software again to try this idea as there is a conflict of which the solution could be so simple. I have zipped etc with various tools and changed compression, they work fine unzipped.
What OS are you guys using and versions, just out of interest.

As I mentioned before I have no problems at all and I'm using 6.0.1 and when I had 5.2.1 never had an issue either. I'm running Vista 64 on a Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q708

Tried the 64 bit same problem scanned with zip checker and that proved ok. Strange thing is the zip file loads and the screen pops up but just don't play the lyrics when zipped. As I said its only happens in VDJ 6.01 a zip related issue.

Just out of interest I would be happy to send you one of my offending files to see if they work on yours
Also just found on first use that the Karaoke plug in on 6.0.1 freezes VDJ, not much changed there really as it used to freeze my others even with 5.0.1

...Or those who use it are not using the proper compression setting in mp3g toolz. I remember when I first got it I had to set the zip compression from what it was (can't remember) to 5-default before first using it based upon info I found here in the forums. Everything worked fine for me until I decided to unzip my karaoke files for other reasons.

My zipped files work with all additions of VDJ which handle zip files bar 6.01. Djcell tells me that the zipped file I supplied worked in his 6.01 and yet not on neither of my two lappys of which are two differnet makes. The zip is opening in 6.01 as the music plays but not the graphics, unzipped the graphics show. Strange one but theres got to be an explanation. Direct x is up to date as with DX9C installed and netframework is in place.

Couple things ... make sure you are 'showing' karaoke files ... the MP3s of the zip will show if you are showing Music only. Check the second bullseye to the right of the search box and make sure Karaoke is checked.
Second ... you might try adding ZIP to the codecs tab and assigning it to the ZIP decoder ... or at least check and make sure it is not assigned to the MP3 or Video decoder.

Chris nailed it. This should do it for those of you who can't get it to work. If not use MP3+G Toolz when zipping, many other compression tools cause zips not to run properly in VDJ. MP3+G Toolz is designed for karaoke. It's a two-step process but it works, when converting your CD+Gs to zip you can do them in bulk or "batch convert" them instead of doing one at a time you can do thousands at a time. Also, don't use a ripping program that rips to zip, use Power Karaoke Burner/Ripper, which will rip to CD+G files then use MP3+G Toolz to compress to zip. My video explains all of this and it works flawlessly. I wouldn't bother to put together a four part video series on something that doesn't work. If you follow my progress on these videos you will see me start with a DK Karaoke CDG disc and end up with zip files that I run on VDJ before your very eyes!!
Make sure you follow cstoll's (Chris) settings and my steps for ripping and converting and there should no worries. I did it on thousand of CDG discs and every one of the converted zip files plays in VDJ wonderfully. Try it, you'll like it!

Do I need to download a Karaoke plugin to get this to work? Again, I'm using v5.2.1.
Thanks for all the help!

My VDJ doesn't even "see" the mp3 file let alone show the words on the screen. Is there something I need to do to activate karaoke on VDJ?

Thank you for your help as with CStoll. Unfortunatley all these ideas have been previously tried. DJcell tells me its works fine on his. They do on my to lappys if unzipped only. Why do they play on 5.2.1 but not 6.0.1. Just to reiterate. 6.01 recognise the zip and opens it and also display the Video. The mp3 file will play but the graphics wont display, put the same zipped file into 5.2.1 and it will work fine. Its as if something is missing in 6.01. Checked the codec as CStoll advised and that is associated correctly.
