Topic: Virtual DJ Y Splitter Cable Problem!

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey,

Recently I have bought a 3.5mm Y Splitter cable for Virtual DJ (I have the full version).
I plugged the cable in the back, where the speaker should go, and put the speaker in one and the headphones in the other, hoping to hear out of both of them (it worked).

Problem
Example:

Track 1 on the left and Track 2 on the right, crossfader to the left. What I wanted to hear was Track 1 coming out of the speakers, but Track 1 AND 2 coming from the headphones, like a proper DJ, however this didn't work, the speakers and the headphones were the same.

Is there a way I can configure this in Virtual DJ to make this work?

Any help would be cool.

Thanks...

I have the full version, too, so i registered my serial in my profile here at virtualdj ;)

in answer to you question, it looks like you need to select the option in config for soundcard to use a Y cable for head phones.
If you dont see this then you might be using wrong software. are you using the PRO version? or a version that came with a controller?

this may help, did it back at the beginning of 2008 so it may be out of date now...

basically if you cant follow the clip

go to config

soundsetup

outputs > external mixer

soundcards > mono seperated

output channels give you white lead/left channel red lead/right channel to your mixer

you will have to use a y splitter for each channel to get dual inputs into mixing desk

which of course will only give you mono sound output

hope it helps

I do have a serial number but it like this: XXXX-XXXX-XXXXX so this site says it's invalid?

Anyway...

I'll explain more clearly. I have Virtual DJ 5.2 Pro (Full Version). My sound card is internal and has two outputs which are green and blue and another jack for my mic, which is pink. I have a 3.5mm Y Splitter cable which I replaced instead of my speakers which where originally plugged into the green output, then I plugged the speakers and the headphones into the Y Splitter Cable. My mic is still in the pink bit, and the blue output is free.

I went to configure and did the following:

Selected headphones, and then one sound card (because that's what I have).
But then the headphones and the speakers played the same. I mucked around with the master a bit but it didn't work!

Please help! :(

in sound cards are you choosing mono seperated (its in the vid)

I have an question! Is there anyone that knows where I can buy an splitter online, not an ordinary splitter, I need a splitter that allows me to hear the two channels in my headphone and only hear the single active track in the speakers output! I bought an ordinary splitter and when I configure my system to use the splitter I hear the two channels in the speakers as well. I have used on before which works like what I want but I cant get in touch with the person to get it. So If there is anyone who knows what I am speaking about and where I can get this i would appreciate it. I know I can use an external soundcard for my laptop but I would prefer that cable splitter system please!

@ teic

wow, did you find your pro serial on the internet??? lol. i have a serial thats already registered by another user because i purchased my hercules controler second hand and it came with origional software.... there is no way your serial should be invalid if you purchased the software new and legally.

also just a hint ;) wink wink,,,, keygens do not produce valid liscence keys they produce an activation key...the two are totally different...and a different amount of didgits...

A splitter is a MONO option to get master and phones. Left channel is MONO master, and right channel is MONO headphones. I really don't recommend this option.

Better get a cheap 5.1 soundcard (you need a 4.0 soundcard but could cost more than a simple 5.1) There are some for 20 usd or go for a X-Fi 5.1 USB for only $60 usd.

It would sound a lot better to have your audio in stereo than in mono. Buy a soundcard, would be the best.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking about the sound card but was trying to avoid that option but it seems like the best one at this moment. Thanks for the explanation and advice

I live in Belgium, Europe. where can i find the Y-cable to split my sound to my stereo and headphones??? can someone give link of website or tell me in which shop i need to look??? thnx

three year old thread but i'm gonna answer anyhow...

just go to any electronics/stereo/dj supply store and tell them you need a y-cable splitter and they'll know what you need.

Hey,

someone help me out here, I am some what of noob and cannot get this setup to work correctly, I only have the home addition at present and am trying to get a live mixing setup, now I have the y-splitter cable, headphones and speakers, once connected I intended to play the live deck, say deck one , through the speakers and then both deck 1 and 2 through the headphones ready to time and fade in. Following my amateur description so far?
Now the issue is it simply plays deck 1 and 2 out of both the speakers and the headphones, how on earth do I combat this, I have tried numerous setups and guides but I am getting no where, somebody please lend some useful advice.

THANKS.

There are two types of splitter cable.

The one you're most likely to find at a normal stereo store is designed to take a stereo signal and send it to both outputs i.e. so two people can listen to the same music.

The type you need to allow cueing and playback from a single output is wired differently. It splits the stereo signal into two mono signals, left channel to one output and right channel to the other.

Those are not so common. Also it means that you end up DJing in mono, which is not good.

The best solution is to buy a proper pro soundcard with two (or more) stereo outputs.

Well explained, however ..

... Home Free version is not supporting multi-channel USB sound cards, therefore purchasing such a sound card, could not be used by the user as he uses Home Free version.
Only Simple STEREO USB sound cards can be used with Home Free version for pre-listening, and use the built-in speakers of the laptop for master output.

ok there is no sound set up or advanced in any of the lite versions. I found the same as i have rmx, mk4,and two other controlers with programs . i own the pro and I can make it do anything I want.. its about buying it and have the proper sound .. even if you have a lite version you can upgrade for change..
