Topic: Virtual DJ and Timecode CD Compatible?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi, I've been DJ'in for about a while now and i'm looking to use Virtual DJ at gigs.

I checked out the hardware compatible page before this but i'd like some views from personal experiance.

The questions are:-

What are the cheapest CD deck/players compatible with Virtual DJ
What are the cheapest CD deck/players that work with Timecoded CD

As I either want to be able to use CD Decks directly as controllers like you can with a CDJ's, or use timecoded CD's via VDJ.

This is kinda what i'm looking for.

http://www.decks.co.uk/package/Numark_CDN22Mk4_Numark_CM100_22501

http://www.decks.co.uk/package/Kam_KCDJ130_Numark_DM1050_21858

I'm currently using Ion iCue for a while as it's easier than lugging SL1200's around but, as the price reflects, it has some problems, mainly feedback when using volume and crossfader.

Sorry to bump my own thread. I've seen a few people have looked at this but no answer. I've looked into it and assume that any numark kit will work with virtual DJ, I just need a second opinion before I but anything, thanks.

Usually people use the time-coded CD if they want to scratch or dont have a software controller. You would need the pro software and a sound interface such as Virtual Vinyl or the Maya 44 USB.

Perhaps a DMC2 and C3 USB would be more applicable to your needs.

The DMC2 is a rack-mounted software controller similar in style to the CDN88. The C3 USB is a mixer with a sound-card built in allowing previewing and

This being said you could use the Icue with a sound-card such as the DJio or Audio DJ 4 to increase your performance. Internal laptop cards offer a very high latency and poor performance in live environments.

Thank You that's helped alot, i'll let you know what I decided to get and how it performs. Also I have used the 44 with iCue it does increase performance but I solved it another way using the settings in VD.

1) I guess you mean can control VDJ without a timecode cd (using MIDI or HID instead).

Cheapest would possibly be pure mp3 decks, such as http://www.decks.co.uk/products/Controllers/cortex/hdtt5000
Depending on your needs, you might want a midi/hid player that controls vdj directly, AND can play real cds.
Good choices then would be Numark iCDX, or Pioneer CDJ-400

2) Any cd player really.. the cheapest DJ deck you can find, would be the cheapest to work with timecode CD.
As long as it has a CD tray, it will most likely work...
But dont expect it to behaves in ways that the CD player cant.. such as scratch. If the cd player cant scratch with normal CDs, it cant scratch a timecode CD either...

But in some ways a timecode CD can add new functions (kinda), as a cd player that doesnt have loop, or sync, will kinda have so if you use a timecode CD in smart mode, and sync or loop in software ...

Thanks for the help.

I'm definatly looking to invest in CDJ 400's in the future but at the moment just looking for a cheap way to shich form decks as although it's more fun its just not practical anymore.

I don't think i'll get TC CD's as I don't scratch that often although I see what you mean with the other functions.

I'll probaly stick with the iCue now i've sorted the sound problem out.

Thanks alot guys this has helped me out alot.

Ask yourself if you are going to DJ with CD's or not.. . If you are looking for a controller for VDJ, you can find some really nice ones, that are not CD players or need timecode CD....

There is an insane range of great controllers out there, that controls VDJ directly..

Some are here : http://www.virtualdj.com/products/hardware.html

In addition you have Vestax VCI-100, Hercules RMX and other traditional controllers (bigger and better than icue).

And then you have the more creative ones, like EKS Otus controller. http://eks.fi/product.php?p=products&id=34
And a Stanton have some creative ones too, and more willl come from others..

And finally you have read DJ CD players, that can also control dj software directly at the same time as being real dj cd players.
These are Numark iCDX, Pioneer CDJ 400, and some coming great decks from Denon

So the range of choices is large ;)

But if you dont want to play CDs, you dont need a CD player with timecode ;)

Best CD players to use with VDJ or VV is the ICDx... they are cheap and are excellent quality.. this is my set up..

iCDX are neat... and Pioneer CDJ 400 too (has a few things iCDX dont have, such as soundcard included, scratchjogwheel etc)

:)

If not please BUY the software by using the link at the top of the page

Thanks/Danke

Im using 2 Stanton c.314, and a numark DXM06 Mixer, with TCCD, Audio 4DJ Snd Card, VDJ Pro, pretty good mid grade consumer Setup
