This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

im seeing this error on skins ive edited.
even if i edit some of the text in the comments in the XML file...

i figure that windows notepad.exe was saving the edited file incorrectly.

tryed all my edits with notepad2 (from google search)

Did you recompress the skin package before using it in VirtualDJ?

if you are sure you didn't brake anything in the code, maybe it's when compressing the skin package that something bad happened.

no. not compressed.
just got the .bmp and .xml in the skins dir.

the files just dont work when edited by notepad.

i got a hex editor, i'll check the file contents properly with that...

the files will need to be within a zip file for vdj to read it

No Dan!

If you put an XML and matching BMP file in VDJ's skin folder, the skin will be available in the Skin list of the Config. ;-)

My apologies - was on the understand it must be in the zip file.

Are both files named the same?

Try using editx2009 - its what i have used to double check xml files for some time.

If it is question of a skin of DJ FORMAT, he uses Visual C++, and cannot be to modify that by this kind of software.

That is not the case .. you can not build skins with C++. Skins are of a XML and BMP only - and usually zipped to a single file.

The 2 files should have the same names and can be saved in the VirtualDJ/Skins folder - mySkinName.bmp and mySkinName.xml

In the Skins tab you will see 1 entry that matches the mySkinName

When zipped you can use a different name if you want for the zip name - most common in developers that build multiple resolutions

Example
mySkinName.zip
with the zip contents being
800x600.bmp
800x600.xml
1024x768.bmp
1024x768.xml
1280x1024.bmp
1280x1024.xml

Using zipped files - In the Skins tab you will see multiple entries that match the mySkinName:resolution

But to the original issue ... make sure you have Word Wrap off if you are using Notepad

I use pspad to edit skin XML files and it saves them perfectly every time. Best of all it's free!
