Topic: Newly created .m3u files not working

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have a fairly strange issue. I created several new .m3u playlist files to be used in VDJ and they will not work. The files are placed in a WD network drive under the following path J:\Music\Playlists and all my music is in J:\Music under its relevant folders.

When accessing those files from the VDJ browser, the older .m3u files work. However, with some new playlist files, even though the songs on the playlists appear on the central pane when i click on them on the left pane in VDJ, when I drag those files onto one of VDJ decks I get an error message (e.g. 01-Radiohead-No Surprises.mp3 - Error).

These files and all their songs work perfectly fine in other players (e.g. WMP, iTunes, Winamp...)

Could someone please help me? Creating playlist in other software to load in VDJ is essential in the way that I work as a DJ.

Shouldn't your playlist be placed in the VirtualDJ folder?

My Docs>VirtualDJ>Playlists

I just guessing here, lol

Thank you for the answer.

This should not be necessary. However, I tried and the files do not work even if placed in the VDJ folder.

As mentioned, the strange thing is that I have some .m3u files in the same folder J:\Music\Playlists that work in VDJ from that folder and the most recently created ones will not play.

Any other suggestions?

i take it you have scanned them, also have you tried the check/fix options

Tayla,

I tried the fix/check thingy, but no result...

Cstoll,

I think that I got to the bottom of the question because of your directions.

I have my network drive mapped to letter J: on my system and I was getting VDJ to scan it from that filepath. I make my playlists with WMP and I have just seen that, even though I add the files selecting the mapped drive, the filepath of the mp3 files appears to be the network one (i.e. \\wd\music).

I have removed J: from the VDJ search database and now I am adding the folder through its network location under the Desktop>Network drop-down on VDJ's left pane (i.e. \\wd\music). I will also add the \\wd\music\playlists folder as a favourite on the left pane for ease of access and check if it works.

Cross your fingers for me.

I will report back later as I think that VDJ will take quite a bit to read my whole collection on this damn slow network drive...

Yey! It worked. As usual, BEST forum ever. If only everything else on the Net was like this! :o)

Glad it is working and I could help.
