Topic: What do you use to record live video mixes

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I would like to record at one of my recidencies to whole night of video. i tried using the built in one with cue but the resolution is too low and i would much rather use my recording laptop to record my mix. thanks in advance. if you can state the program and possibly your system specs you use to record. i plan on using a 1.9 dual with 2 gigs of ram tweeked for recording.

ok but what about one that i can use to record to a different laptop other than the one im mixing from?

no one else?

The easiest way is just to buy a dvd recorder, then plug the computer output into that.

You can buy capture cards, but they're not always very good quality

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adaptec-Video-Converter-DVD-USB/dp/B00009OWE0 just the first one I found.

A lot of PCI tv cards also have an s video input, but you'll need a desktop pc for that. Fraps seems pretty good for demos if the computer is powerful enough to run it and virtual dj

I agree with 100%.. the easiest way would be to buy a dvd recorder and record your sets..
Advantage.. once you finishe playing basically you have your dvd...no other work needed.
drawbacks - not chance of editing.. and chapters may come every 3 - 5 minutes and not where you would necessarily want them

Chances are you may want to determine how your recording is viewed... and it may be more than likely that you may want to edit of course that means you would need to rip vobs back to computer, from DVD

A very great way of capturing your sets is through a gadget called ARCHOS... which can be transferred (copied) back to a computer directly.

http://www.archos.com/products/gen_5/index.html?country=global〈=en

Advantage - single file back to computer.. great for editing purpose etc.
disadvantage - you will have to create DVD from this recording yourself.. if that is what you desire....

don't forget to add in some clips of you doing the actual mixing if you can. fading in with an inset picture that shows you actually performing the mix would be a little extra icing on the cake. can do this using a simple video camera and the most basic of video editors.

well im very new to the video side of djing so not sure on many dif video editing programs. i should have stated before i own a pinnacle external usb tv card which i know can be used to pull video from a camcorder, vhs, tv ect. i know windows movie maker will allow you to record audio and video but i wasn't sure of how well it performed. i really just need to record what i do so i can show people who have no clue or understanding a sample of video mixing. try explaining to a 50 year old women you can mix music videos live at her daughters graduation part. they look at you like you have 5 eyes. at least this is what i come across. then they say oh you can video tape our party too? like i mentioned before i have a decent laptop to run as a dedicated recording machine when i wanna do the recordings so that isnt really the issue. its more of what should i use to record in.

best advice is as above go the dvd recorder route, then use a simple editing programme like ulead 9 or above, i say simple but is extremely capable of producing good edited results to fine tune your video, if you need any help in this direction either one of the guys or myself can help you with this.

I'd recommend Acethinker Free Screen Recorder which I have used for many years. It is a web-based tool that lets you record your screen right from your browser. It doesn't require you to install any additional plug-ins or add-ons.

Doesn't work.......

@user15101435, two members that I respect said it didn't work/or spam. I leveled your post up. If I made a mistake, I have superiors that can correct it.
