I'll Start:

VIRTUAL TURNTABLES (VTT) Big Ups to Jeff the Godfather[:o)

have tried "all" (at home), almost as a scientist looking for a dj program that would work for me :) here is MY opinion (surly someone might disagree)

- PCDJ (good)
- MixVibes (good)
- VDJ (great)
- BMP studio (ok)
- Kramixer (ok)
- Traktor (good)
- DSS (ok)
- OTS DJ (crap!)
- EZ-Dj (crap!)
- Visal Discomix (ok)
- newDJ (ok) (hercules)
- djdecks (crap!)
- djpower (crap!)
- DM2 digital mixer (strange)
- mixmeister (strange)

I've been really interested in finding out it there was a software that could "replace" my cd-players, and that could work for me.. at least for smaller gigs.

And my conclusion, obviously, since I bought it, is that VDJ is the only one that does it! (for me...)

REALLY! can't see myself using ANY of the other software.. that’s the truth!

My guess for the future? I believe VDJ and MixVibes will be the 2 leading software in a short time... because they both develop fast, and seem like small companies that works hard and are focused on this one task ... That's my guess.
And it sure looks like VDJ is picking the longest straw, already being ahead of MixVibes.

When it comes to PCDJ, Traktor and others that kinda have ruled the pro-dj scene, they develop to slow, updates costs money (I think..), and seem to me to fall behind VDJ already, and even more in the future.... (my guess...)

So, being in sound mind and sober, I really think I made the right decision, for now, and for the future.... VDJ! :)

"Tried them all" too. VDJ was what I always was looking for. Since I use VDJ, I sometimes play with other demos to be sure I made the good choice... I did for sure!

Here is my history from the beginning ...

1981-1997 : turntables
1997-1999 : turntables and VIRTUAL TURNTABLES (VTT)
(Yeah this was the first, i agree to digijoc-mele
for : "Jeff the Godfather" :)
1999-2003 : Pioneer Cd's + Digital1200 SL->(become)PCDJ RED
2004--> : cd's+ Dj console+ Virtual dj at club
Real Turntables(technics) +mixvibes dvs+ Virtual dj console
at home...

But i tried them all.
Here is my opinion:
VIRTUAL TURNTABLES : The first.
Many of the features i've seen years later in mixvibes and Vdj
was Jeff ideas..
Pcdj Red :very good for that time, very stable
but outdated now
Pcdj Fx : It likes to crashing, make me go away from visiosonic. I also don't like their marketing style now...
BPM studio : overpriced, tried it again and again because of its fame but never liked it, outdated too.
Traktor / Mixvibes : many features, powerfull for studio
use, litlle "tricky" for soundcard configuration, need good asio
card for a good working setup, not always stable.
Virtual DJ / Atomixmp3 : Just "plug and play"
The only program make me feel safe
Easy sound card configuration and "zero" latency-works with every soundcard.
No need for creating playlists or databases not Tag V1/V2
confusion (for those asking for tags), just read folders/filenames.
EASY, but powerfull.

My history

besides vinyl (SL1200's still rule), Denon 2500, Pineer CDJ500s

- Winamp, still favourite just to listen to mp3s
- VTT, I agree that it was the first, apopsis said that other softs used the ideas, but the userinterface of VTT was just a Denon 2000 (At least the first version)
- Alcatech BPM studio, too expensive, very bad search
- Atomix Demo version
- VDJ

I also tried some demo's but VDJ is the soft for me..

1996: vtt (thanks to jeff for being the first to introduce computer djing).
1997: mixamp (the first ancestor of virtualdj/atomixmp3, it had a very simple interface, but already auto bpm computation and visual rhythm display)
1998: virtual-dj
2000: atomixmp3
2003: virtualdj

DJ in Norway. I agree with most of your findings but I have used mixmeister pro 5 for some time to make mixed cd's and I also have used it live for Weddings etc. Does not allow much real-time control over the mixes but for background music etc it is perfectly fine. Also, one of the great advantages of having a copy of mixmeister pro is that it keys your music set for you! Very handy if you aren into mixing by key.

Totaly agree with you Darph...

What I meant by "strange" in reviewing Mixmester, was not saying it was not a good program, but kinda strange to use for really pro dj mixing... in real time.

But its pretty amazing when mixing (background) music on the fly... having nice crossover/beatmatch.. But still, not really a dj program (I think) in the sense we are talking about here :) hence "strange" to use as a DJ, by no way meaning it's a strange program :) Can make good mixes... for CD's etc, have used it for that myself.
But would not use it for a live DJ gig.

My first experience was Mixamp and his red and green interface.
This software was the thing that take me back to my turntables !

I agree with DJ In Norway as well on just about everything he has said.

I too have tried just about all the titles he mentioned and more.

It was obvious from the very first occassion that I tried VDJ.Atomix that this was the best software I used. Think the first time I used Atomix was in 2000 maybe 2001, it was about a month or 2 before Safri Duo - Played Alive came out...2000 I think.

I really like MixVibes 5 as well and it was a tough decission between the 2. VDJ won the battle based on it's search feature and it's rate of development in such a short period of time.
Also to get MV to work with DAC-2 you have to have EX version which still doesnt have adequate search and it's + twice the price.

The only thing I really prefer in MV is it's Vinal emulation.
When you touch the Virtual deck with the mouse the feel is much more like that of a real turntable being able to nudge the track on a little if it is lagging.
Also the Power Downs and Power Ups sound incredibly more real than VDJ...VDJ guys could you sort that please - listen to VDJ and add power up option, please add option to extend to 10 seconds.
and to leave enabled after powerdown so you can go straight to power-
up you need to try it in MV to understand wat I mean.
Basically add a Vinyl Mode where Play/Pause perform the same as in MV

Cheers,
Ross.
