Topic: Serato Sub-Crates (VDJ not reading a sub-crate of sub-crates)............. [FIXED] - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Well I just noticed VDJ isn't reading my sub-crates in another sub-crate when it comes to reading Serato's crates.

Not sure how long this has been going on but when I open SDJ everything is fine yet VDJ will only read 1 sub-crate deep.

I tried creating a structure crate 1 which contains crate 2 which contains crate 3, and it correctly shows 3 levels in vdj for me.

Can you try with an external drive please??

Anybody having problems with sub-crates in a sub-crate??

Mine are showing up but I try to expand them nothing happens. It's like VDJ thinks the crate is empty.

Can u give an example ?
E.g. sub-crates that only contain files from an external HD ??

It goes like this

Main Crate-
Sub-Crate(albums)-
Sub-Crate(Singles)

The albums crate shows up but the singles crate which is inside the albums crate doesn't show up. When I open SDJ its there and opens just fine but for some reason VDJ won't open it.

As Im sitting here looking its the ONLY sub-crate that VDJ won't open??

Trying to reproduce here, but cant.
So ..
- the Main Crate is empty (no files)
- the Album Crates have sub-crates but no files too
- the Singles Crates (nested on each Album Crate) have files from External Drive

is that your structure ?

If you add a new Crate in SDJ (not inside the Main Crate one), does it show up in VDJ ?

Ok can you answer me this question??

Where EXACTLY do I point VDJ to when I'm using multiple drives??

As I look more into this a lot of my crates are not showing up yet they are all inside SDJ when I open it up.

I'm on a Mac also.

And I have a _Serato_ folder on every drive and it has a crate and sub crate folder which is making me believe VDJ doesn't see them all.

Right now my file path is /Users/Soundinsurgent/Music/_Serato_

But that's only on my MAIN DRIVE and nothing to do with my external drives.

VDJ looks on all drives for crates.
The structure of your external drives is something like this?
D:\_Serato_\Subcrates\mycrate.crate ?

But I can ONLY point VDJ to 1 location. I just tried to tell VDJ I have a Serato folder on my internal and external yet VDJ is only seeing my internal and part of 1 external!!

And if I don't tell VDJ where to look then NO crates show up.

And if it looks on ALL drives for crates as you say then what's the point of me telling VDJ where to look??? This makes no sense to me......

I think you can point to a custom Serato path only for the C Drive.
Normally it will look at the "default" paths for all other Drives.

thats why Adion asked you the path of the Serato folder in your external ;)
So does the external drive look like this.. D:\_Serato_\Subcrates\mycrate.crate ?

No each drive has it's OWN _Serato_ folder which has a "Crates" and "Sub Crates" folder.

On my Mac it does not use the "C:/" extension, each drive is named like this "Videos pt1", "Videos pt2" and then "TRACKS".

Remote takeover?? 😜

Just to clear this up:

djdad is correct.

VDJ will look at the custom path, and also automatically the _Serato_ folder on the root of all other drives. The reason for the custom path is so that if your system _Serato_ folder is not in the default location, then you can change it (since that is not in the root of the drive by default, it's usually in your Music folder).

Scott, Checked Huey's computer and paths are OK.
Took his Subcrates folder and was able to reproduce here on my own computer (cross-platform issue).
We will investigate.

Adion has found the problem and it should be fixed in the next available build.

Ok so is this an actul bug with VDJ or is it just my files??

I will say this I use a script to clone my folders which turns them into crates. And yes I do this on both a PC and Mac.

Not sure if that makes difference or not??
