I just started setting up VDJ8 with my Nexus setup and both decks come out the same side. I need to link the fader for Video. Looks like this is going to take a little longer than I hoped. A more intuitive setup would be my biggest concern at this point.

Welcome to the club. I'm trying to figure out how to map my 900 Nexus crossfader without it affecting the headphone volume. I was thinking of maybe copying the map of another presently working mixer map and customize it for the pioneer.

Mixers like the DJM900 should be mapped as fake mixers.
In version 8 the fake mixers are mapped differently than version 7. You need to use normal actions like volume, eq_low, eq_high, crossfader etc and turn On the fake mixer on the ONINIT and turn it off in the ONEXIT.
so the mapping file should be like...
ONINIT : fake_mixer on & fake_eq on & fake_gain on
VOLUME : volume
EQHIGH : eq_high
EQMID : eq_mid
EQLOW : eq_low
GAIN : gain
CROSSFADER : crossfader
ONEXIT : fake_mixer off & fake_eq off & fake_gain off

Notes. fake_mixer on/off needs to be used when you need fake volume and fake crossfader
fake_eq on/off for fake eq low/mid/high
fake_gain for Fake gain
fake_filter for fake filter actions
fake_hp for fake headphones volume, mix, pfl actions
fake_master for fake master volume

I have a problem, when I disconnect my CDJ 2000 Nexus while VDJ8 is open, it doesn't work when I reconnect or just one deck works.... I have to close VDJ then reconnect to laptop... am I doing something wrong?

The MIDI part should work again (both units will work once connected back), but probably you will have to click on the Audio Setup button again, in order to connect both sound cards back. If one CDJ is missing, then most likely the software will use the sound card of the other, not sure how, but if the sound card is still there (from the other one), then it wont change it again when connected.
Can you check ?

Ok, dumb question. Would we map those commands under the controller tab?

I used: <map value="ONINIT" action="fake_eq 1 &amp; fake_mixer 1 &amp; fake_filter 1 &amp; fake_gain 1" /> and works fine!

you will also need to have the same actions with off (0) instead on (1), on the ONEXIT key, just in case you need to use a different controller in the next session. I think those are kept across sessions..but not sure.
