I see theres alot of changes in virtualdj 8, my question is; with all these beautiful improvements, will you have the ONE thing that keeps me from buying this Program...Auto gain that i can set myself..like SERATO..yes if you implement mp3gain style autogain..I will immediately purchase and only use virtualdj because it is the best choice...but wit the autogain fixed on 0db if im running songs and maybe hadnt processed it through mp3gain already clipcity...and this is not good.... And are you thinking of being able to set the bpm analyzer according to style of music.....

you better get your credit card ready... there is already an option in the config menu to set auto gain, there are four settings "disable", "auto", "remember", "auto+remember"
"auto+remember" is the one I use as it saves any changes to the gain and uses my settings next time I load the track otherwise it uses the auto setting.
Also if you need to you can change the "auto" db level in the registry, I think that option is built into the registry tool although not 100%, but it's very easy to modify the registry... you do need to be careful in there though.

just put it in the config menu....i have access to virtualdj , and auto remember is okay but me and partner(who has the licence) use different drives...i use serato still...dont really worry bout the level it does it...but on the set that makes the money...my files all jumping levels like crazy...so im using mp3gain now but why should i double process...30,000 files..and growing....every time i add track to my library,,,

Make sure that you are not trying to play new files (Ones you haven't previously played) before they have loaded in full on the deck.

The auto gain in Virtual DJ works great. If that's the only deciding factor for you purchasing VDJ then you need to rethink your needs.

Q: Will the new version 8, be able to preload all the files? Some files don't preload. But can still be played. I don't understand why.
Q: When will the new version be available for purchase?
Q: Will I be able to upgrade 7->8 for free if I register now?
Q: Will Hercules DJ Control MP3 be supported by the new version?

A: Explain. It's an individual problem, not common
A: When it's ready. No releasedate was ever given.
A: It always was and so it will be.
A: Why not? It is supported right now, so it will be supported in future releases.

Thank you for your answers.
Regarding Q1. Sometimes when I drag a track on a deck, on the wave display section, it does not fully load, most of the times it loads as it plays.
I know there's nothing wrong with my MP3's. Will that be fixed in the next version?

in the optons panel you have to configure the ammount of time for the loading tracks...default is 15 minutes...I quess you try to load larger ones...the whole thing has to do with the ammount of ram used for loading tracks...if your ram is not more than 2gb leave it as it is....

The files I am talking about are not larger than 15 minutes, I know about that. I have more than it is required to run VirtualDJ. My computer specs are good.

are they VBR 'variable bit rate' if so you should know that dj software has issues detecting bpm and gain of vbr, you should endeavour to replace these files with cbr "constant bit rate" files

Actually:
A) A lot of programs have issues to determine the correct TIME of VBR files.
B) If you analyze a VBR file before you load it on the deck VDJ will be able to determine the correct time and thus load the file if it's smaller than the time threshold on the settings. If you don't pre-analyze the file then yes, there's a chance for VDJ to see a 8 minutes VBR file as a 20 minutes track and don't preload it.
C) VDJ will detect correct BPM and Gain once it analyzes a file no matter if it's CBR or VBR.

Now that's something with a working logic. Thank you for the answers, but still, will the newer version do the same?

The current version can already do this. Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/MaxLoad.html

Yes.
To date, all updates have been free for existing registered full VirtualDJ Pro users and there are no plans to change this in the foreseeable future.

Yes, it should be because it is still a popular controller. The only reason a controller might be removed in future is if it is very old, obsolete and no-longer used by anybody, so can't be tested/updated for the new version. Hercules MP3 is still used by many users.

I just wanna say something about VirtualDJ 7. Something I wish to be changed in the next version.
I went at a gig in a big club, all fine, connected my stuff, got the sound working. All was well.
After about 4 hours or so, I load a track, it start's playing well, I turn up the volume, did not notice the file was still loading. I had the AutoGain ON. After it loaded, it scared everyone, including me, because the gain value changed ultra fast.
Please! If a track is playing, and it's still loading, please, please change the speed of the value change.
Since then, any gain option in virtualdj is off. Manual gain is what i say it's best. It does not scare people, it does not damage the gear.
Please do something about that.

It's a stated fact that a new track will be analysed on first load and the gain adjusted accordingly. Nothing new there at all.
Simple and best solution is just to run any new tracks through MP3 gain and disable the VDJ auto gain. It takes seconds for each track and then the gain is universal which ever software or device you play them on.

you just need to pre scan your tracks, and a dj tip if your playing clubs... "never play a song you don't know, it's your job to filter music and present what you think sounds good together to the crowd. You can't do that if you don't know what your playing"
also there is a wishes & new features forum which is your only line to the development team, requesting in any other forum falls on deaf ears.

Let the un-analyzed track load fully before playing it.
Posted Sun 03 Jun 12 @ 9:50 am
All this explaining work arounds why not just have a user set-able auto-gain. so i can set it at 89db with anti clipping..(mp3gain) and let my amps do there job and amplify... so if a client has something he wants me to play will set on load...or just tell me where in the registry i can change the autogain to what "I" want it to be...its a very simple feature.
