Yeah I'd look into background services. But XP is in nowhere as bloated as Vista. My XP install is pretty much stock and works well. You can try disabling onboard sound, the best way to diagnose these problems where it's not transparent where the problem is coming from is a bit of trial and error. You should also check system information for any irq sharing. If you have irq conflicts that is a big problem which may need reinstallation, sharing is quite normal nowadays but usb tends to get assigned high irqs and shared with other system components like graphics cards which isn't entirely desirable, there's nothing you can do about this really otherwise optimize your system everywhere else.

haha. guess what.
after disabling many background services my pc has stopped glitching.
i spun a 1 and a half hour set and it diddnt glitch once.
even on tcv.
wow.
but my latencytester still spikes every 2 minutes. could it be that i streamlined it soooo much that the glitches are taken out but it still registers spikes ?
thanks to andrew87.
big up yo self son !!!!!
also....skyfxl is elite.
know this.
if you read all of his blogs, you will never have to ask a question on this board (unless its something ultra crazy like disabling background apps =)

Might be laptop power saving related, give this program a go: http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/
Once you've set the new power setting you don't need this program open any longer. Hope to see you as a full member soon :-)

I'm off to bed now, got an early start and it's late in the UK (or early, whichever way you look at it!)

I had a Dell XPS m140 Pentium M 1.73(prior to core duo's) w XP, I used this util to make the CPU run at 1730mhz all the time: http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml
Everytime the CPU would throttle up or down it would skip, especially in ASIO mode. Most of the time it would run at 800mhz, then if I loaded a song or tried to scratch it would throttle up then back down, then skip.
http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/ looks good too.
