Topic: Slightly Distorted Sound

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi Guys,

I'm pretty new to all this so please bear with me!

I'm currently using an Ion iCue (recently bought) with a trial version of the VirtualDJ software (Cue LE I felt was a bit too basic).

On some tracks, not all, the music sounds like it's skipping a beat or struggling to play a beat. I count 1 2 3 4 but sometimes the beat seems to be slightly off timing too.

Is there anyone out there who would be able to give me some advice on this? The tracks are always brought back to their correct BPM so it isn't that and as far as I can see there's no problem with my sound setup. Indeed just playing music normally through Winamp, this distortion doesn't occur so I'm guessing it may be the VDJ software.

Not sure if this has any bearing but I currently have the 'performance' tab set to Fastest over Quality. However I'm a little bit reluctant to play with this as I'm not familiar with it, and my earlier messing around with it caused far worse distortion than this!

Thanks in avance for your help.

Mike

It's likely the "Master Tempo" feature that does this. By default it is enabled with the "fast" setting which is low on CPU resource but sound just plain wrong having the effect you described missing beats or hats and just plain weirdness. I'd recommend you disable it by binding a key to command "master_tempo" and after hitting the key you assigned on each deck, checking it is disabled by varying the pitch (the key of the song should then change like on real decks)

It is folly to have left master tempo enabled by default, with low quality setting it just does not work.

Thanks for the advice, I've given this ago but the distortion still seems to be there?

Hello,
I purchesed a numarck total control cause i sold my whole pioneer cd-player equipment due to rare freetime and a lill lack of money. I am absolutely satisfied - for the price it´s just great. But----using it with cue LE, the sound sounds really off, not only the beat seems to be split, but the whole sound is just not like it is normally, numb, like described above. I didn´t really get how all you solved the problem by "shortcut"? I am new to this digital theme, so please take your time describing;-) I would be happy to hear some advices, thanks M

Hello,

sorry for not answering for such a long time. In the meantime i did the following - updated my sigmatel audio driver, tried to stabilize the hardware speed, purchased numark djio....the result:

the splitted beat remains, the sounds still off - with or without djio - but additionally now i hear when i manipulate the basscontrollers a crackng noise!!!!!! Its is there when i record it, it is there over headphones and master. I have no idea what to do next, i really want to fnd a solution since it is so easy to record stuff just do a little mixing at home, any other solution would be far more expensive.

sigma tel audio, dell inspiron 640m, intel centrino duo 1,66 GHz, 0,99 GB RAM.
