Topic: Sound Problems in Hercules Mk2

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi,

My setup is as follows :

IBM X31 1400 Mhz , 1 Gig ram, 40 GB Hard Disc, Hercules MK 2 Console, VDJ 3.4.1
I think, 80 W Soundlab Power Amp and some monitor speakers, 2 X Numark Decks.

The problems I am having are

1/ Sound from headphones is awful regardless of source (vinyl, WAV, MP3, FLAC)
2/ Signal Level output is very very low, even on a full PA sounds very quiet
3/ Bass quality is pretty poor.

I have checked that VDJ is uising the hercules sound card and I am using the latest updates etc. All levels seem ok, any ideas anyone ?

Not sure what that can be...

As for sound level, make sure you have it turned all the way up in HERCULES control pannel. By default its set at about 70%, and thats too low for a PA system

Try plugging your headphones into the 3/4 output at the back of the unit to test - this is the headphone output channel (make sure you turn the volume slider down a bit on the deck you are testing this with or you'll get it full blast (headphone volume knob only controls the output on the front). If it's still bad, try another pair of headphones. If it's clear on the 3/4 you may have a bad volume potentiometer on the headphone control...I do :(

As for the bass quality, check and adjust your gains. If the gain is too high, the bass gets very muddy.

Good luck ;)
