Topic: Codec in Mac Version

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have a track that I play a lot in itunes/scratchlive basically everywhere. I played it in the Mac version of VDJ & it was only playing through the left speaker. This is when I realised this track is mono. I went into the codecs tab in setup & changed the mp3 decoder from default to quicktime & now the track plays fine.

Is this how it's supposed to work?
When it comes to TCV use, does the codec you chose really matter?
How is using the Quicktime codec going to affect my experience with TCV's?

I can only tell you the built in mp3 decoder has other problems as well (ever tried opening 100+ MB vbr mp3's?). I use the Win version and had to switch to windows own decoder to fix them. While that doesn't say anything about quicktime, I doubt it is any worse than the inbuilt one.

For fun see if ffmpeg based players have same issue, they might've fixed it. Changes in open source libs take forever to propagate to projects like this where they take them and slightly mod them and then it's a maintenance nightmare...
