Topic: 5.1 crashed tonight.....anyone else have problem? ["Invalid Folder"] - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

For some unknown reason about 4 hours into my show tonight vitual dj popped up a little message with a smiley face on it saying there was a fatal error, but if I clicked on the smiley face it would fix it and everything would be fine.....well no it wasn't, I quickly opened windows media player and cued up a song, I clicked on the smiley face and VDJ just shut down in the middle of the song so I quickly started WMP and continued on figureing I would just do a radio show style the rest of the night but to my surprise in the middle of the WMP song VDJ just loaded up and started, naturally I switched back to it!!!!!!!!! About 20 minuted later it did the same thing, then for the last 2 hours of the night it ran perfectly again.

The first time it happened I was running video and loading another video track (had text 2d plug-in running), the second time it happened I was playing a video and loading entering a title int he search dialog (no plug-ins running at that time).

Anybody else ever had this problem and does anybody know why it hapens and how to prevent it form happening again?

The machine is running xp, service pack 2 + all the updates, latest direct x, windows media player 11 with all codecs up to date, Atlon xp 64 x2 dual core runing at 4200+, 2 gig ram, Nvidia 9600gt OC 512mg ddr3 memory 540khz speed and all other programs are shut down.

go to the VDJ folder under your documents and post the text in the file called crashguard.txt. Then the dev team can better tell you what possibly happened to cause these crashes.

The Crashguard text file will tell why..

although holes for crashes are closed by each release, there can be such things as bad skin etc.

So if you post that files contect, we'll have a clue ;)

I have a similar machine except in vista format.. I have a ramdom shutdown only when I work with videos. Audio can play for 24 hours straight.

Same for me as above, had a crash last week, then another one this Saturday just gone. Seems stable as a rock with audio only.
Crashed after several hours use, these are the first ever real issues I've had. Kinda makes me nervous!

Here is what the crashguard txt said. Strangely, it only seems to of logged one crash, or should i say, one date... there were two!?

Crash ID=004767d7 (date=803090041, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=66833800, excode=c0000005 (0,36c8fc8))
Crash ID=0046ce19 (date=803090044, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=8b484c8b, excode=c0000005 (0,4c))

I would love to know more on this, any ideas?

Dave

These two crashes are new in our crash database. They will be analysed as fast as possible.

Do you remember what you did when it appeared?
Do you use an external controller?
Do you have an external HD?

thanks again for the reports

It's an external crash (a plugin, mapper or a library).

Crash ID=0046ce19 (date=803090044, version=5.0.7, build=507, thread=Main, dump=8b484c8b, excode=c0000005 (0,4c))

It's an error in the skin you are using.

Both are linked to the problem that we have named on the forum "Invalid folder" in order to identify it.
We don't know why it crashes randomly only on some computers.
The only thing we know is where it crashes in the code and if you want to reproduce it on your computer you have:

  • either to click on the desktop or a folder (when you explore your HD) or a favorite in the tree of the browser
(there is absolutely no link with Virtual Folder !!)
  • or to reset the search field (= when you clear the search field after writing into it)

Maybe try with the same folder or the same search.

Hope you can reproduce it with that and tell us why you have such problems. It would help us to understand a mystery and I could sleep at last in peace.

@chaffer

Which processor do you have?
XP SP1, SP2 or Vista?
Which skin do you use?

It confirms what I have just said above

I do have folders with names that start with "=" could that be the problem?

Could you give me an example (all the pathname)

I have just tested your example of path and I have found no bug so it's something else.

Could it be linked to the warmness of your hard drive? When this one becomes too hot maybe Windows looses data concerning the folder.

Can you execute a "chkdsk /r" on your HDs in order to verify the sectors/clusters

@Papaoke
You are also affected by the "invalid folder" mystery but in you case you have 2 different values "200087" and "15" contrary to others who only have "14" (interesting for me)
Can you read what I wrote above about the "invalid folder" problem and try to add some new information here if you can.

Can you search the following in the search field with the search option "FilePath" selected:

\\\\

Do you have some results?

My audio randomly freezes. The decks / wave forms stop moving and sound is gone. I have a New Gateway Lap top the runs with Vista. When I close program the message appears: Do you want to close software with music still playing. This has happened about 4 or 5 times now. I'm using a BCD 3000. I've just purchased VDJ and the BCD 3000. This is new to me. It did work fine for about 4 hours the other night. I have a wedding this Saturday and don't want any problems. Are there any fixes?

Grrr it's still the Invalid Folder crash

Can you tell us all about this crash.

Left or right click on the search?
Is your skin in fullscreen mode?

Hello djcel

I have no idea if I was even searching at the time, It was a very busy night. I 'think' it just did it on it's own, without any input from myself. I'm not 100% sure though (old age!)

If I was searching, It would have been a left click though for definate, as I always use the left mouse button when searching.

The skin is the DN-S3500 Suggestion, by AngelMix, 1024 x 768. I always run the program so I can grab the top and move it to one side should I wish to see the desktop. Sometimes I throw my new songs on the desktop and play them from there, so it is useful to be able to do this. So I'm guessing I'm running in window mode? Is fullscreen mode potentially more stable?

I shall try to pay more attention if it does it again.

Do any of these error codes lead you to believe video is unstable, or does it all look ok?

The last video crash, I never had the smiley face, the program just made it's exit, and left no crashguard report!

Any sugestions, or anything you would like me to try?

Should I now clear all of the text in the crashguard file, so it's clean? Or is it good to keep all the info in case the errors are connected?

Thanks for your help so far.

Regards

Dave
