Topic: Video playing with TurboCache

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello, i post this here because im not sure if my problem is software or Hardware,

Ive read a lot thru the forums about videocards compatibility, also at other forums about forcewares etc but i still cannot solve my problem.

The thing is that i changed my laptop this week. Ive been playin videos live with vdj for the last 4-5 years so i had several experiences with videocards as i usually change my laptop once a year.

Now i have a very powerfull laptop with 512 video dedicated rami (1gb turbocache) but works worst than my old one with 128 dedicated ram (no turbocache). I think the problem can be turbocache. I tested all kind of settings but nothing...i always get a little freeze mixing videos (sucks live club). I would change the laptop but is difficult to find one with no turbocache (nvidia) or hipermemory (ati), manufscturers are going to this kind of cards....ufff, i really started hating this turbocache thing.

Anyway, it seems my only problem is with Virtual DJ so i ask if this thing of turbocache incompatibility could be solved with any patch IT WOULD BE REALLY GREAT!!!

I know teamers have their priority ans are very bussy but videomixing is a very important part of vdj as it makes the difference (apart of other things like broadcasting, effects...etc) from other dj softs.....

Ok for if is helpful, i leave my config below, is nosense that i have video problems with this powerful machine (is just my thought as i had no problems with lower machines)

Acer Aspire 5920G
Intel core 2 duo processor T7500 (2,2Ghz, 800Mhz FSB, 4MbL2 cache)
Nvidia Geforce 8600m GT 512mb dedicated video ram (up to 1280mb Turbocache)
2Gb DDR2 RAM
250Gb HDD
1Gb of intel turbo memory
Vista Home Premium

VDJ 5.5 (also tested 4.3 same problems)

Any comments with same experiences would be really appreciated...

Thanks

Hi,

You really should have no problems with video on that laptop. Are you sure you have codecs etc... installed properly? Check for updated drivers and maybe consider doing a fresh clean install of Vista if you have the factory install going. The vendors generally have everything set up extremely poorly. Also check what other programs are running in the background. Apologies if you've checked all this. I always start with the simple things first and it's usually a software or driver issue.

Just for fun try removing your intel turbo memory as well. I've read mixed reviews on how that affects performance.

I have my laptop with only an Nvidia GO7300 playing video under Vista flawlessly. I have a lower processor than you as well.

I tried looking how to disable turbocache under vista and it doesn't seem like it's possible. You could try a free app called rivatuner located here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 and see if tweaking settings changes anything for you.

I too had this issue under XP with thurbocache, except the video on one player would freeze completely, untill the other deck was loaded. Thankfully it was only a backup system, my main system does not have turbocache. It actually has a Nvidia go5200 FX, with 64MB of ram and videos and sonique plugins run smooth as silk on it! It used to have 32MB, and that actually played quite good too!

As for your fix, as mentioed above your key is Rivatuner, I have not tried this under Vista, you'll need to check with their website as to if it will work. You will also need to make sure that you install the Nvidia drivers that are the latest the Rivatuner supports, as if the drivers are too new for Rivatuner, it will not be able to load a database for the driver.

Link to the fix is here!

Hope this helps
