Topic: Questions about Scratching

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

#1 I have the Hercules DJ control and I know it's not the best tool for scratching but I know it's possible to pull off some descent sessions

#2 When I watch a video like this: http://homepage.mac.com/marksettle/.Movies/skratchworx/vci100.mp4
I have 2 questions.

1. What sound is he scratching to make that awesome sound?
2. Do the same techniques he's using on that work the same for Hercules DJ control?

well...what happens between the VCI-100 and the Herc is this.

VCI-100 has a touch sensitive jog so that means that as long as your finger is on the jog your deck is stopped just like a real record.
the Herc, well you have to constantly move the jog back and forth in order for your song to stop otherwise if you hold your fingers on the jogs the music will still play until there is movement.

then another issue you will have with the herc is the size, the crossfader is so close to the jogs that you don't have much room to play with in order to pull off some really good cutting using the Xfader unfortunatelly. the sound he's using is surely an effect that you can get from battle records.

Ok I know it's difficult to pull off with the herc but where can I find battle records that I can convert to MP3?

Im REALLY sorry for double posting but I have more questions.

Would it be smarter to save up for the VCI-100 or should I save for an external turntable.
Also what are some good scratching techniques that are (possible) to pull off with Hercules if not extremely difficult.

Also I found this link with great battle record samples...and their legal!
