Topic: The bizarre database.... - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Hello.

So, in my frustration with my database (hundreds of missing BPM's and song lengths each time i open Virtual) i decided to delete everything and re-install from scratch. So.... i did just that... and, everything went just fine for a few days... No missing BPMs, etc.... But that only lasted for a few days.... Now im back to missing 100's of BPM's and song lengths.... Why does this happen? Ive tried the clean, fix, recurse, things.... Tried rading through a bunch of posts on here... but nothing has worked... but i dont really know what im doing. What can i do?

XP or Vista, version of VDJ, Is it always the same files, Laptop, internal drives?

XP. Latest version of VDJ. Laptop, External drive, does not seem to be the same files.

In config>browser>Infos Gathering, I have enabled, enabled, enabled, I don't use the cover thing, and add automatically. What do you have? This seems very strange that it only holds for a few days.

I have the same....

Do you use any controllers or do video. I noticed that if you open your program and it thinks that a controller is supposed to be hooked it will give you a warning message which will cause the music info to be lost... Same thing applies to video driver.

I use the Hercules controller... but i dont get any error messages.... Guys, thanks for chiming in, im at a loss for answers....

Oh and yes, im all video.

At any point of loading your software and can see it loading setting. If you controller is not set up it will give you a pop up of direct X warning ( or something like that )... If you do video setting in your computer is different in VDJ. It will give you a pop up something about VIDEO drivers.

anytime that VDJ ask you to clean / fix a HD... you most likely have info missing.

These have been my experences with lost file info. Or if I go from XP to vista with my HD. A pop up will happend about screen resolution, HECK, this sometimes happen on the same computer.

Im not getting any error messages. I never had this problem on version 4.x .... I wouldnt think that it has to do with having the controller connected, since in the past i would use Virtual without it connected all the time...

Since you said it was not the same files, I would take one folder and rescan the ones that lost the info. Write down the first and last three files. This way you can tell if the same files are losing info. Recurse, add to search, and see what happens. This may be the result of going from 4 database to 5 data base.

Im in the process of reanalyzing about a 1000 videos... Is there something i should do when i get everything analyzed and all set to go?

One very wise move I can tell you is to BACKUP the database file from My Documents/Virtual Dj as well as backing the ones up that are on your drives this way if somethin happens you know for a fact that you have a working database(s) to put back in and you dont lose it all:)

Are the databases updated before you X out of Virtual or after?

They are done on the fly.

i'm having a problem where it keeps losing virtual folders ???? today i'm at the club and it lost 2 or 3 since yesterday , plus it lost a favorite folder while i was here today ?? i always close or launch w/ cstolls xml tool ....... i guess i'll start backing up the database after every mobile gig / strip club shift .....

Well that right there may be your problem, the xml too isnt supposed to be used with 5.0.

first i heard that ........

go look under the downloads section it says its not to be used with 5.0:)

uuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yer right ........ i'm at the club right now , so i'll fix it at my earliest opportunity , thx brian
