Howdy all

Just curious. I've been mobile dj'ing for about 6 years with a great amount of success. I must be
doing something right ? But I'm wondering is it tough being a club DJ. I would imagine DJ'ing in
a strip must be tough because the whole dynamic is different. Are the dancers difficult to deal with ?
thanks in advance for your repsonses.

sincerely

I have never done a dedicated strip club, I have done nights where a stripper group is brought in. And am now a mobile DJ. There is a different dynamic at a club. I have heard horror stories about strip clubs though. I imagine we can expect a replay from Chuck and Marcel at the very least.

Club work differs from Mobile work in one major way. The genre of music in a club is usually dedicated to one or two different styles. Where as Mobil you need to be more of a jack of all trades. The biggest difference I noticed when dealing with the "dancer" with a stripper group is I was much more active of the mic than other places.

Hi,

I'm the Marcel, Terry was refering to.

I Just left a dance club to go to a strip club. As terry said - the work is different (I do Mobile as well)

The dancers can and can't be difficult to deal with. Depends entirely on the girl. Some are pricess's, some are crackheads, some are ruthless pro's. I personally prefer the ruthless pro cause they are there to make MONEY; not get high and fuck customers/staff.

Some clubs have a manager dedicated for dancers, some don't. Some porn stars dance as well and they have handlers and such.

There's more freedom of music in strip clubs than dance clubs. I think dance clubs are much more fun cause Personally I like watching real regualr type girls get freaky as opposed to the ones that get paid to take it off.

One thing that's always true no matter what at a club or Stip joint - It's not personal It's just business.

So When the Drunk stripper/customer comes yelling at you to play they're song NEXT!!!!!!!! don;t sweat it.

I would think a strip club job would be easy. The ladies will let you know the songs they want in advance.

You might think that, but it's not all about the girls. You have to factor in the customers, just like in a dance club. Letting the girls decide what you play can really mess up your room. I let most of the girls that I work with know that they can trust me and I will help them make a lot of money. (Which in turn helps make *me* a lot of money.) I've learned to read a room and play the appropriate music which helps get the customers get in the mood and lets the money flow from their pockets. Because I deal with a mixed crowd (older, younger, black, hispanic, white, etc...) being well rounded in different types of music is a plus. Some places may only do rock or dance or hip-hop, but the club I work at rounds all the bases. So you see, working at a strip club in some cases is harder than a club gig. For freedom, I prefer dance club gigs, but for money, I'll keep my strip club gig.

Thanks for the input everyone. It's very interesting. I doubt i'll be dj'ing in a club anytime soon
i'm to much of nerdy 42 year old father of two to do anyting like that. mobile dj seems to work
well for me, so I think I'll stick with my strengths. It is cool to read about what you other's do
though.

peace

The Strip club I am in, is easy as long as you are not afaid to talk on the mic, I am not I have my own radio show, and if you know your music, and after some time when you get to know what your girls like. The girls are a pain in the ass, but just dont give in to them all the time and they wont walk all over you. I do hate chaing most of them around to get my money, and trying to keep track of what girls I have, are they in the private room or not when it is thier turn on stage ect..... Bottom line though, I have had VERY slow nights and still made 400 - 500 dollars......

Clubs are great though, I work average 4 to 5 nights a week and it is just natural to the point I dont even have to put much thought into it, so the stip club gives me something different.

I DJ in a bar on Friday and Saturday nights. It's good fun 99% of the time. The only thing I don't like about it is when you get some drunken arse, I mean customer, asking for a track that you have played or being a proper d**K with you, It can ruin a good night.

I think no matter what kind of DJ you are whether a Club, Bar, Strip Club, or a mobile DJ, as long you have fun and enjoy yourself you can keep spinning to you are 60 if you want.

Jimmy b,

sowndman ... it ain't easy

to echo Marcel .... definitely prefer the ruthless pro ...

to touch on something Teary said ..... you have to be like a jack of all genres which is easy for us mobile guys

I know that feeling well enough. Just last week I had a fellow ask for the same song three times in a half-hour period. I played one repeat out of, I think, pity, but..."Oops, I must have forgot, but we are done for the night. Maybe next time."

Hehehe :P

I could not have said it any better, as you are a true Pimp. The only thing I want to know from a dancer is, "what kind of music do you hate". I will try not to play that on your set, but if the customer base dictates it, too bad. I do not take request from dancers, and do not send a customer up to ask me for anything, because that will turn me into DR Jekyll. Sometimes I can have all Reggaeton girls, all Hip Hop girls, or all Dance. I can tell you right now, that will not work for me. I am not a juke box. All of these girls will get some kind of rock, throughout the day. My experience is, the customer does not hear the music, unless it's a lot of something they DON'T like. I have a bunch of young girls, that don't realize that there was great music before 1990. The average age on my shift (Daytime) is 35 and up, white males and females. They are not listening to Daddy Yankee or Soulja Boy, in their cars. I only play for who is in the club, not who I wish was in the club. I occasionally ask customers if they want to hear something special. It's not like I care, and I know that 99% of the time they will say no. But they get the biggest kick, out of the fact that I asked them. So they are happy. On the other hand, If there is only one guy here, why can't he have a few request? Who else am I playing for? Yesterday, it backfired on me. A new customer wants to hear Mission Impossible, the original theme. No problem, it's only 51 sec, and he was happy. He became a pain in my ass, but that happens from time to time, and I can handle it.

A Pimp can't just keep slapping his girls around, you gotta show them some love sometimes. At the end of the night, these girls are giving me lots of money. Even if it's a slow day, they have to be happy giving me money, when they did not even make any. So, you have to pull them in the booth every once and awhile and say "That's a hot outfit, is that new"? "Are you losing weight, better cut it out". "That hair cut is slamming, when did you do that"? They love the fact that I notice everything. "Hey baby, you got anything new you want to hear"? They may tell me about a nice track, that I don't even know I have, because I get so much new stuff every week. I also have to be there for them, when things are not going so well. So I listen. The booth is also a safe haven, as I just want the money, not the sex. Well , that's another story. There is no way I could work in a regular club, unless I could play every kind of music. I would be bored to tears if I had to play just one or two formats. This is what works for me.

" closed course , professional driver "

AMaHM ..... you'd think people w/ so much money would be smarter .....

it's the same w/ me ..... when i go there goes the video ......... schmucks

The Chicago Rock Chain in the hampshire region UK pay absolutley peanuts to there DJs via an agency 110.00 or less for a 6 hour gig with a total of 3 hour traveling time of which some of the DJ's under take so not to loose other gigs at their clubs also if they only give you three out of four gigs you have to pay the agency commision. They called me at short notice to cover for one of there clubs which i refused out of principle as the money and treatment of their DJ'S is very poor in deed.

last night i coulda done , but i refused ..... the new stallion didn't show again .......i did stay one hour to be nice and give'em a book of my Promo's to use after i left ....... including monday's double , i had just done 4 shifts in a row ........ there are lotsa people out there don't understand that DJ's don't grow on trees ...... so i let'em have a taste of no DJ ........ i think it's only fair to tell people your objection if you don't wanna do something , that way they have a chance to respond ........i will not characterize or dismiss there offer , i say thank you for thinking of me , and i am available , and this is my price ( even if they have mentioned a low price already ) i just ignore it if they make a lousy offer ..... if they don't improve the offer or want to argue i nicely explain that just like with there business , there are certain important prices that you must get everytime or your business can't succeed.......this is our dilemna , since i am available immediately at my price , it's now up to you ........
