Topic: Before the gig....

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have all my music video VOB files divided into folders by style... (Dance, Hip Hop, Disco, Rock, oldies, etc...). All filenames are in the "ARTIST - TITLE" format. What process do I need to apply to these folders so that all the necessary file info has been processed before my first gig? I think on version 4.x, there was an ANALYZE process, but I don't see that on my version 5. I am very much into beat mixing, so I assume BPM scanning might be one step? Also, is there anything that will speed up the load time on these tracks?

Right click on a folder and select recurse. This will list all the files in that folder. Right click on a track, select bpm. Depending on the type of music, choose between techno/house, or other music. Do a whole batch at once. Left click a track, page down to the end, and shift/left click the last track. Right click on this batch, and analyze. What I do next is check to see if the bpms are correct. If you used techno/house and you know they are wrong, redo them with other music. Once you get the hang of it, you will know which engine to use. If neither one of them is correct, try the manual engine, and tap your way to the correct bpm. Your vob should load faster, after they have been analyzed. Also in config, options, select max load to always. Right click on the folder and select add to search DB.

Thank you. I assume all this BPM and related info is stored in the MY DOCUMENTS folder under VDJ - not in the file itself, correct?

Also, I think the cover art above the browser is pretty cool. I don't mind searching and loading all of these in beforehand, but I would not want to use resourses during a gig for this. So which process is it that gets these pics?

Yes, if you are using Vista. As for the album art, you are asking the wrong person. I think it is a waste of space, but who am I. If you go to config>browser>cover, you have 4 choices.

So are you saying that in XP, the file BPM IS stored in the file?

The BPM is stored in an XML database , that is placed inside MyDocumets/VirtualDJ, plus every root drive of extra harddisks. (allows hot swap of disks).

Regardless of its XP or Vista :)

At gig, IF your PC is connected to Internet during the gig, you can turn off the cover downloads in browser settings, as Man&Music pointed out :)

OK thank you. That makes sense. But regarding the covers, I would like to use the option that says "only if Local". However, how do they become local in the first place?

Local means from Windows Media Player or iTunes (both can download covers)

Only local, means only use covers that WMP or iTunes have possible stored for the file
