What do you think the best speakers are out of the two, Cerwin Vega or JBL?
Posted Thu 04 Oct 07 @ 1:55 am
I think it depends on the size your interested in... Me, I like the JBL's for 15s but the cervin on the base end
Posted Thu 04 Oct 07 @ 2:01 am
jbl array system and cervin for the base

Only CERWIN-VEGA. I have been using them for years without any issues. Great sound and lots of bass.

Thanks for the response, I use cerwin vega myself however if you go on there site they hardly have any models to choose from at all. I think in the pro rannge you have the
intense range and thats it! If you visit JBL's site they do more models to choose from this would suggest to me that they are the bigger company over Cerwin.
One other thing im from the UK how come all the speaker manufactures are American? I think you lot just like making a noise!

Just to complicate matters, The Turbosound TXD range is well worth a look. ;)

MACKIE!!!!!!!

Makie powered speakers overheat way to easy and the passive speakers are not great. The JBL EON is a much better power speaker or the EV equivalent.
JL or EV is the way to go unless you have money to burn then buy meyer.

I have had my Mackie SRM450s for two years now. I use them every weekend..and have driven them like a stolen car in a police chase. And they have never..EVER overheated to the point of shut down.

for those wondering what JBL stands for I will not hesitate to point out my definition as well as it is widely use in the business.
Junk But Loud
I had bought 8 pairs of JBL EON speakers only to have 5 of them needing repairs so I returned all 8 and went with Mackie speakers and never looked back. I also have 2 Cerwin Vega Afterburners although I rarely use them.

I've never had any problems with the JBL Mpro's

I have used Eon 15 in the past nothing but problems , blown tweeters , one actually blew a hole in the cone of the 15'' driver . Been using Vega's for a couple of years now and absolutely no problems . I have 2 Sub 15'' and two 15'' mid /high 's driven by 2 amps going through an active crossover and they sound really good , and i do drive them really hard .

This summer I did huge outdoor event during grand prix week and we were using Makie SRM450's for DJ monitors and they kept overheating. Mind you when your dealing with other DJ's using your equipment they tend not to care if they crank the shit out of it. So they probably won't overheat under normal conditions.
The JBL EON's i have had no problems so far and they are almost 3 years old and they don't get taken care of I will tell you that. They are rock solid and have never overheated...
As for the sound quality of JBL it all depends on the series you buy. The EON's will never sound as good as an MPro. Makies do sound better then the EON but you can't have a monitor/speaker die in the middle of a DJ set.
Really it all depends on what your using the speakers for. So you have to ask yourself some questions. Do you want Powered or Non Powered, do they need to be portable, what size of venue you will be using them in, how important is sound quality, and what do you want to spend.

One of the best sound powered speaker that is overlooked is the EV SxA250...
Posted Fri 05 Oct 07 @ 11:07 pm
I'll tell you that JBL and Vega are just garbage way under EV, I'm a Pro-speaker tester and the EV's Eliminator series are the best for any kind of Dj's, resistance is two times JBL and Vega.

The EV ZX series are excellent. I have used them on a number of occasions and they are always crystal clear right up to the limit.
Definately have a look at Turbosound's TXD range. Sound fantastic, built like tanks, and impossible to blow up! They have tiny light bulbs that blow before the drivers do to protect them.
They also have just bought out powered versions of the before mentioned which are supposed to be fantastic too. JBL, Mackie, Vega just aren't in the same league as Turbo, Martin Audio and EV in my opinion.
However speakers and sound seem to be an area where everyone has different opinions and their favourite brands.
