The speed of loading is going to rely more on how your machine is built more than the type of file you are using. If you are using fast SATA drives with a quick CPU and plenty of RAM, you should get some blazin' load times. And external drive with a USB interface and a slower CPU will give you a slower load time. VOB files are usually bigger so they will always load a little slower no matter what you are using.
