In which folder exactly, I am seeing a Sound Effect subfolder in the main Plugins folder, is this where it goes?

Yes, audio effects goes in Sound Effects folder.

Thanks. One major problem I am encountering is how to adjust the parameters of the vst plugin? Adjusting the 2 rotary knobs on each player does not have any effect?

These knobs do not work for every effect, in my experience. I think your best bet would be to enter the effects tab, select the desired effect for editing by highlighting (clicking on) it and adjust specific parameters there. They do tend to vary for each one.
