the maya 44 usb sound card is a must "flawless, seamless" job it does
for data protection in a small case i suggest a coolermaster hard drive cooler "not really noticeable but my harddrives seem to react alot better with it and last longer"
i built mine for under $900USD with 2Gb of ram 2.4ghz ect. "budjet shopped" "only the box"
i also suggest a thermaltake "or other brands" heatsink n fan for cpu "varable to 6,000RPM" if you use this in loud areas and experiance lagg. "6,000rpm screams loud lol"
illuminated keyboard "Logisys even works fine tho it is generic" in dark areas
hope my input helps, i say 10 out of 10 odds with the price range your looking you could build something perfect for what you planit for, in either form "desktop or laptop"
