im used to using a dual deck cd player for years and so i dont thing a total control will work in my favor but wondering just how close they are in the way they interact with vdj.

I own two Numark dual cd deck players an 88 and a 90. I also onw a Total Control but, have yet to use a dmc3. The TC is very nice and intuitive in its layout, your transition should be comfortable if you decide to go that way. I have to admit though I am still thinking about a dmc........It would fit in my case real nice......

If you're used to a dual CD player, the Numark DMC-2 is ideal. It's actually based on the Numark CDN-95.
