Topic: Need help with separating DVD's

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Ok, I now have all DVD's ripped to my hardrive. I do not have the Software yet but should be receiving it Wednesday or Thursday so I want to have my music and videos prepared. Please help...

For each DVD I have 2 folders: Audio_TS & Video_TS. Im assuming I need to separate the files in the Video_TS folder as I have nothing in the other folder.

I have 3 types of files in the Video_TS folder: .BUP - .IFO - .VOB

Now what do I do? Whats my next step?

Well .vob files play directly in VDJ.

They are big. You can convert them to divx files for compression if thats the format you want to use.

I personally would stick with the Vob files, till they fix they .m4v (h264) codec issue.

Yeah I know VDJ palys .vob. Thats what I plan on using for the time being. In the ripped folder I only have like 5-6 .vob files, so im assuming I need to get extract the videos right? Don't I need to do something else? I want to get them labeled.

I think you ripped it incorrectly. Most DVD like promoonly contact >20 tracks which should yield 20 or so vob files.

You need to rip in the format that yeilds Chapter > VOB. No an entire DVD rip.

Are you using MTR?

Ok from the Manual- http://homepage.mac.com/wiseweasel/mtr_3b_manual.pdf

In The extractions mode select

TITLE-CHAPTER EXTRACTION.

• Title – Chapter Extraction mode extracts the selected chapter(s) to a single file (or optionally one file for each
chapter), either as a muxed (multiplexed) VOB file, where all the different streams (video, audio, subtitles) are
combined, or as the desired demuxed streams. Note that the streams from Chapter mode might not be able to be
imported into DVD Studio Pro, as they may lack the proper file headers for that. This is because chapter breaks
often do not come at the start of the file header. The streams can still be used in other programs, and converted to
other formats.

Ok...I just got the program. So far what I have is not working. :(

Here is what one of my folders looks like.

1st

2nd

3rd

See I have the contents of the DVD but I still need to do something else, just don't know what. I do not have the original DVD's on hand so I can't do everything over.

Please help...

1 - I clicked on the 1st folder, 2pac.
2 - That opened the audio/video pic.
3 - When I click on the VIDEO_TS i get the 3rd pic.

Drag the vob to VDJ, that should play...

Unless they are protected

Ok well, I tried to drag about 20 or so of the .vob files into VDJ (at diff times of course) and only like 2-3 actually worked. When they did work they were still grouped together, 3 or so videos in each file. The ones that didnt work just said error in the title section of VDJ.

Anyother ideas?

Charlie,

I see your problem.

What version of MTR do you have?

In the beta version 3.0, you need to change the mode select from DISC select, then in the mode select

TITLE-CHAPTER EXTRACTION.

What you did was rip the entire DVD.

What other extraction modes do you have before you actually start to rip the contents?

Yeah I don't have the beta 3.0 MTR. I researched previous posts and seen one where you suggested to use it. I def will in the future but right now I got 500 gigs of Video ripped like this. This is the whole DVD ripped. Isn't there another way to do it (separate) once on the hardrive? I don't have the original DVD's in my possession right now and want to get the learning process started asap. How were people doing it before the MTR 3.0? I hope there is a way to sort this out :(

Charlie, I dont know of anyway to take the vob streams as you have them and put them into indivial chapters (as separate videos).

I hate to say, i think you will need to re rip :(

if you have some type of video editing software like sony vegas you may be able to cut the songs into seperate files but it would take alot of time. it would be like taking a full 60 minute mix and chopping it up into 5 minute files.... would be a big pain. Have you tried using a encoder and maybe having it convert the file into chapters?

Charlie, Forget my last comment.

Try to find an application that will read the .ifo file.

The ifo should have the chapter info. Basicallly you have a copy of the entire DVD and need to split into separate chapters.

There should be a way.

No problem. Do you have a Pee cee? I think DVD decryptor does this. Anyhow, i think you need a DVD reauthoring type of application.

OK, found a work around. Download Yadex

http://www.macetvideo.com/dl_center/dl_center.html

It in french, but Its a simple app.

You can open your videoTS folder. and extract the chapters from it. Downside is it only does one chapter at a time.

Goodnews, is i tested it and it works!
