i have a hp pavillion (model 9010) laptop 2gig of ram 1.8 dual core turion 64 processor 120 gig hard drive and media center edition ops. this seems pretty powerful to me. i used to have my performance set at fast but it kept on freezing up so i went down and down the line now its set on the begining (quality) and its working better its not freezing up as much but it is still doing it. i tried every setting i have the latency set at 1024 i'm using a maya 44 external sound card for the public and a usb audio output to monitor i dont use ttables or cd players all i use is the progam it self. i'm tired of wasting money and i'm starting to loose my trust in this program everytime i tell u guys about a problem (vdj) u guys never give me a solid answer everything has to do with spending more money or my laptop specs are not good enough. then after i change a setting i have to sit there and play music for about 4-5 hors to se if it freezes or not i'am wasting alot of time on this program and i'm not getting any reliable results back. it's a good thing there are more than 1 dj where i play at so when they play i can reboot the program and start fresh for my next session. i left mixvibes pro 6 to come to you guys mixvibes never frozze up on me i just did not like the way it was set up. i love your program i just want it to be reliable. or my next move is the real thing cd players cause i can't afford to look like a fool!!! pls help

".... i'm using a maya 44 external sound card for the public and a usb audio output to monitor...."
Hi there, ALI11.
I've been experiencing some problems with my system also. One thing told to me though was that sometimes using USB devices for some unexplained reason may cause VDJ to freeze. Even something as simple as a USB mouse, for heaven's sake. So perhaps one thing to do is try using the program without any USB devices at all, to see if it then operates ok.
Just a thought.
Good luck.
Cheers
Barry

Ok, firstly, I can understand your frustrations. it's a bummer, but there are some reasons popping out of this thread.
1/ Major one - Media Centre Edition OS. Unfortunately, this OS is not recommended for use with VDJ. I don't know why, but there's something about it that doesn't work well. And, from what I know about it myself, it's generally not a very good OS anyway. Perhaps someone can confirm.
Secondly, what are you using your pc for? Are you just using it for music? Do you use it as a computer at home for surfing, playing games and watching dvd's? If so, then that has to stop. Try and have a machine that is dedicated to VDJ and music. A clean machine that does not go on the net is far better for your VDJ than anything else.
Salus is also right. Try and not have too many usb devices running. Make sure you don't have any IRQ conflicts as well. Kill as many background services as you can, such as virus protection, etc.
Do you have shared graphics? If so, this can cause problems like the whole freezing thing.
Apart from the os, the specs look fine, so I couldn't honestly say.
Hope you get it sorted...(",)

If graphics are shared, you will also have problems.
Check this post for details of graphics cards that are Low/Med/High range. See where yours slots in.

i called hp and they told me that i can't up grade the video card cause its not changeable its a built in unit. so what is my next move? should i just change the ops and see if its more stable? also what is overlock & safe mode for?

ALI11, I know how you feel.
I've just had a strange experience where my average quality home PC that's choked with everything from anti-virus programs through to thousands of outlook express messages, etc works great with VDJ. But my brand new, high quality system works terribly with it, causing entire computer shutdowns whenever VDJ attempts to analyse songs. Take a look at my posting elsewhere in this forum for details.
The bottom line?
Hmm, I don't really know......
