For a lot of years I have used balanced xlr cables/connections from mixer to active speakers.
Now I've bought Vestax VCI-100 I ideally want to connect my Mackie SRM 450s directly to a soundcard. I currently use a Maya 44
Is it OK for me to use one of those leads which goes from Phono to xlr to connect my speakers direct to the soundcard? http://www.westenddj.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=SKY176683
Alternatively is there a decent soundcard with balanced outputs xlr or jack would be ok?
Or is there a small preamp that anybody knows of that would do the job.

Look at using something like this -- http://www.aphex.com/204.htm
You could then go - SndCrd (RCA) to IN (1/4" Balanced or Unbalanced) then XLR OUT to XLR IN at speaker. Plus you will be greatly impressed with the sound enhancement that the 204 will give you.

Having just RCA to XLR will give you poor quality, unbalanced signal sound.
Also, it's not necessary to buy another soundcard.
You could use any sound processor in between the soundcard and the speakers.
Almost any processor will do the job, ranging from EQ, compressors, limiters, Feedback Destroyer, Dynamics Processor, etc...
Hell, even those cheap Behringer "all-in-one" will do the job just fine! xD
Just choose what you need (and check that it has balanced XLR out).

Also, then gives you lot's of flexibility if you suddenly need an extra mic for somebody, or if you need to plug in a spare cd player, (or tape player even!?). And of course you're made if you want to start doing karaoke!

Oh, also it depends how much of an audiophile you are, but the cables you linked to might be fine anyway as long as you don't have miles of the stuff (and don't coil them!)
Since the Mackies have lots of volume headroom (the soundcard probably outputs -10dB I would have thought, but a mixer usually outputs +4dB) so you'd have to turn the gain up higher than usual.
Depends on whether you want to do it the "proper" way or just make it work! :)

That was one of the reasons I recommended the Aphex 204 --
Switchable -10 dBv / +4 dBu operating level
IF LEVEL SET TO +4 dBu -- Maximum Level +27 dBu
IF LEVEL SET TO -10dBv (-7.8dBu) -- Maximum Level +12.5 dBV (+14.8 dBu)
All great ideas - but should really look at the unit!
