In the recommended configuration, says to get a direct x compatible soundcard with front and rear separate outputs. If I am planning on using the Maya 44 Usb external, does the internal card matter?

It should not. In the sound card setup you will choose the maya. Unless you plan to use the internal sound card for the samples. Maybe it'll matter, then. Make sure you get the latest direct X drivers, though.
