Hello,
I've been playing around with both VDJ and Serato for about a month or so (I use PCDJ on a weekly basis but would like an alternative).
I like VDJ more than Serato for many reasons, but I must say that the VDJ record case SUX.
Serato's record case is much better and It reads my id3 tags well.
I would love to see a totally new redeveloped record case that reads ID3s and has custom VDJ directories with links to links to them (Like PCDJ).
This is what is keeping me from using VDJ every weekend.

It needs an update soon, true, and its on the list of things to do...
But version 4.x added a bit of a feauture, much like SSL crates, called VirtualFolders.
You can make such folders/crates, and drop files into them, making shorcuts to the files.
A file can be dropped in more than one such VirtualFolder.
A VirtualFolder only makes a shorcut to the file, so it does not take more space at your harddrive, and its also absolute path to files, saved in the XML file. So it can be moved to second PC or gig PC, as long as file path to files are the same

launching the software should result in a verification of the database (songs that have been imported)
above mentioned procedure should report the total number of songs, total analyzed and total missing, missing songs should be relocatable.......
all idv3tags should be available and addressable.....not just comments.....
the browser window should show artist song track # producer , file , label , import date, number of plays ,last played,genre etc......if you really wanna get fancy ...key related key lyrics , choose the items you want ......color code ?
songs in the current play list should be numbered
the search bar should have a dropdown showing the last few searches,which you could simply click on an previous search and do that search again.....
do away with the sidelist.....
the preview should be a permanent window w/ it's own stripe........the decks should have a flashing countdown to the end of the song.... dedicated reverse button per deck.....dedicated repeat song.......print the playlists
these items are needed just to play catch up with Traktor.....
these items need to be default..... not skins......
at some point in the future you are going to have to implemnt these items plus eliminate some supported features because you need more stability ( more default functionality, less skins), especially after mac........by eliminate i don't mean make it impossible but i do mean give up on trying to be everything for every situation i don't think it's do able........
please add these features soon ..... i saw a recent post about using a good new (non video) skin plus a good browsre .....it was real good but if you did all that you just end up with an old 2 deck version of Traktor.....the latest Traktor has 4 decks by default, not by skin, plus i think it's cool they have the software emulations of high end mixers.....if you can output to a decent system it's gonna sound mighty good......basically the high end mixer emulations are what you normally would call a soundcard, they already do mac.......
if you ever have the unfortunate experience of having the software or computer crash in the middleof your set, which fortunately has only ever happened at home....Traktor will come back up at the playlist you were just at.....also you can see Traktor fight to keep going ......the visualizations ( stripe beat markers ) will stop or a deck will be slow to load but if you just leave it alone and wait it will right itself....... i still like you guys, i like this forum , i like Vdj and it's great video capabilities.....when i got it i didn't want to sacrifice anything that i could do ................

I want a song I type it in or part of it in and scroll down and load it in.
Takes all of 10 seconds.
I don't any music "catorgorized" nor is it "timeline-ed" I just have all my MP3's located on my second hard drive and nothing else goes on there but mp3's
In fact I labeled it "MP3Dump"
I guess I don't get the micro-organization of tracks.
Either Browse by BPM for mixing or by artist when playing counrty or classic rock
simple in - simple out.

i have met occasionally dj's that to me seemed just amazing that they could remember so much, they didn't seem to be real organized yet they could always have what they needed at hand......
Maybe you are like that also , Marcel......for me i think it's impossible to be organized enough , and i don't rely solely on my memory.......i have very little so far organized by bpm which needs to be addressed , and zero in terms of harmonic mixing.......

just to add to the above, have a look at the way mixmiester is set up, if the dev team could emulate that i would be one happy bunny, i've been using that programme for the last four years or more and it has totally spoilt me. If the dev team uses that as a base platform and then adds features to what has been mentioned.....wow it would be the dogs bollocks...Tayla

Just remane your mp3s to Artist- Title.mp3 (using realplayer, tag&rename, or some other software)

The only thing I would really like to see is to be able to put virtual folders inside other virtual folders. So then you could have one labeled "Dance Music" then have folders inside that called "House", "Trance", etc.
Would make the browser alot cleaner, and also means that if i click on the "Dance" one, I can see the contents of all the sub-folders.
Oh, and don't get rid of the sidelist, I put requests in it! (you can lock to to minimised anyway) :)

i did like the sidelist at first .....how 'bout this.....default is the playlist......when you search the search result shows where the playlist was ( just one window ) right click for sidelist??? also i keep harping on color codeing......is that so hard ???????? that could be useful for a jillion purposes........
