Hey folks, I've just got myself a 2nd soundcard(external usb) for my laptop so i can use it as my headphones/cue channel. I am getting very bad distortion from this channel through the headphones.
I have fiddled with the latency setting and putting it on the highest setting it seems to solve the problem. BUT...this seems to create its own problem when cueing up songs due to a bit of time delay....is this curable? is there another way to fix the distortion???
Virtual DJ version 4.2r1

Update your directX

try lowering the latency now until it start to crackle again, you want to find the point where you have no crackles and good latency.

I have the same problem as dov1978....Changing latency solves problem only for a short time....then crackles occur again...neither updating DirectX from microsoft page helped...Big latency between two sound cards is stable, changing any preferences....

Right ive checked device manager and theres no conflicts, updated direct x, and played with the latency. Changing the latency setting is the only thing that solved the sound problem, but my problem now is that when im cueing a song up on the headphones (via the 2nd sound card) the sound is out of sync. i.e i get the cue track beatmatched between headphones and speakers but when i mix in the song with the crossfader its out. I hope this is making sense as its quite hard to explain! Also when its beatmatched on the headphones I can see the difference on the track analyses graph thingy at the top.
There is obviously a time delay being created by the latency settings.(Probably stating the obvious I know) but its now impossible to mix accurately using just my headphones and not just hitting the sync button.

First off the trial version is limited so what you are describing is not uncommon. The trial version is intended to give you an idea of the capabilities that VirtualDJ can provide. However, you hit the nail on the head by stating that the latency of you sound configuration will give you a mixed result in what you see and hear. Did you try setting the performance slider to Fastest and then the latency to AUTO?

yeh tried that m8 but still getting distortion on headphones/2nd soundcard. I only lose the distortion by setting the latency to 1024(23ms), I have unchecked safe mode as this was causing skipping when crossfading, and ive unchecked overclock but im not even sure what that does.
I'm beggining to wonder if its just the laptop/processor thats the problem i.e too slow.
Its only 1.66Ghz Intel(R) with 1Gb ram.

Just out of curiousity I installed v3.4 and on the short time I've tried it I never eperienced any of the problems I did on v4.1r2. Obviously the programme is far more limited but soundwise seems much better.
There is less option to adjust latency etc unless the terminology is just different.
I'll give it a proper road test tommorow when my girlfriend and kid arent in bed. If it results in a more suitable option I'll just have to take a few steps back the way and stick with it I suppose.

yeah v4.1r2 did that to me also,
but since they are up to a newer version then v4.1r2, that issue is completely gone :)
my TCV's work flawless now as well :)
the Dev team did some awesome work on the new engine of the program :)

Many crackle and distortion from vers 4.3
I have check all possibility with all configuration but nothing!!!
Vdj memory problem?
After update impossible to mix right!
My config:
AMD 3000xp+
1ghz ram
Hercules mk1
xp10
When i check to configure xp10 to master out the pre out from hercules it's bad too!!!
With asio it'same.
Please test vdj with minimun machine and not with high power machine.
For professional mix the first is the audio quality and videomix is an optional!!!
thanks

Try with the full install instead of the update.
