It depends on what you set in the software. Controllers just send linear values for sliders in MIDI. VDJ has different crossfader curves, and with some plugins you can also make your own.

cel has made a plugin called fader curves, (designed to change the fader curve for those that need that explained), this maybe exactly what youre after

I was looking at the Xsession pro at The local music center's dj gear section. Now that I've seen it, it doesn't look all that bad.
Very Basic but it'll do for a home practice controller.
Price is okay too $109.99 CDN dollars
Question is, how to map it?
I think a tutorial is in order for MIDI dumb ass's such as myself.
Then I'll probably buy this thing and give it a good workout at home.
But untill a true all in one controller with good soundcard and good buttons, good joggles, maybe a scratchpad (like on the newer cd players, hybrid TT's) on the joggles.
No way in hell I'm using it live.

all u gota do mate is go to midi options
then choose an action ie play
add that as a shorcut then press the play button

That's my problem...
Do I copy and paste the shortcut?
Do I press and hold the button?
A step by step would be helpfull as I havn't attempted this before and it might save some frustration and my GF's ears from hearing swearing in both official languages.
For the good of my GF and my blood pressure - some inrstuctions for the MIDI idot please???

Bazzooka has borrowed me his M-Audio X-Session Pro.
I can say it reacts very well to control changes!
Sliders are refreshed with a good rate, and their friction is designed for their use: the crossfader and the volume sliders have less friction than the pitch ones.
Buttons click the right way and they're done with a kind of plastic which isn't too soft or too hard, and makes the good friction to the finger.
So, I can say it's a really good mixer, with a very simple but effective hardware solution.
Anyway, I find its design a bit wierd. I think it's too simple to be used standalone. Its lacks are the missing of jogwheels, dedicated loop and fx buttons, more cue points and other things. So, it must be used with other hardware... I'd prefer an analog mixer, which can do more things that this controller. I know it can be mapped as you wish, but no with THAT design...
