HI all,

Was inquiring with someone at Edirol/Roland about a standalone video crossfader and he led me to look into this piece called the MOTION DIVE.

Below is the link.

When you go the site and see images, you have to click the button to the right and see the VIDEO of this baby in action.

I am am looking for feedback comments, discussion , experiences, etc.

Hot or not???

not sure the cost, but looks like a lot. WIll it even fully work with VDJ? Check the instructional video.

let's dive in...

I just got the price- only $299, but it does have/use it's own software so I wonder how many of the items in the video technique demo will not be able to be used because remember we will not be using that software..
Anyone who can research more; that would be cool!

THE 2nd video (Grant Davis) tells that this is the first controller "dedicated for its own software". We need to find out if it is to be used exclusively with its own software or can be used to control VDJ via USB.

Let's do this!

Why spend $299 for a controller that has less functionality than the $129 X-Session???
Waste of money, but it is midi and can be mapped with VDJ's MIDI mapper.

Don't waste your money.

C- just ordered the X session from Sweetwater which gives free tech support if trouble hooking up. The guy at Roland said their piece was made for their software.

quick question.

Do you think I will be able to assign one of the knobs on the xsession to control something like the speed of a video effect like how fast the cube spins?

I'd love to assign 1 midi button to activate/dectivate video cube, and have one of the little rotary knobs work the speed (which now I have to go into VDJ to adjust).

thanks!!!

Yes, Here is my X-session settings:

<midi version="4" date="07/09/2006">
<ctrl ctrl="24" action="level" chan="1" />
<ctrl ctrl="16" action="level" chan="2" />
<ctrl ctrl="25" action="pitch" chan="1" />
<ctrl ctrl="17" action="pitch" chan="2" />
<ctrl ctrl="26" action="key_offset" chan="1" />
<ctrl ctrl="18" action="key_offset" chan="2" />
<ctrl ctrl="27" action="effect_slider_1" chan="1" />
<ctrl ctrl="19" action="effect_slider_1" chan="2" />
<ctrl ctrl="28" action="effect_slider_2" chan="1" />
<ctrl ctrl="20" action="effect_slider_2" chan="2" />
<ctrl ctrl="31" action="gain" chan="1" />
<ctrl ctrl="31" action="gain" chan="2" />
<ctrl ctrl="23" action="master_volume" />
<ctrl ctrl="10" action="video_crossfade" />
<ctrl ctrl="30" action="crossfader" />
<ctrl ctrl="22" action="video_fx_param" />
<note note="1" action="play_stutter" chan="1" />
<note note="2" action="master_tempo" chan="1" />
<note note="2" action="master_tempo" chan="2" />
<note note="3" action="play_stutter" chan="2" />
<note note="4" action="video_trans" />
<note note="5" action="video_select_trans" value="-1" />
<note note="6" action="video_fx" />
<note note="7" action="effect_activate" chan="1" />
<note note="9" action="effect_activate" chan="2" />
<note note="0" action="crossfader" value="2048" />
<ctrl ctrl="29" action="nothing" />
<ctrl ctrl="21" action="nothing" />
<note note="8" action="nothing" />
</midi>

ctrl = 10 is the fader on the X-session - set to the Video Crossfade
ctrl = 22 is a knob on the X-session - set to video fx param

Unfortunately right now you can only set the video fx param for the 1st parameter of the video fx. For the video cube luckily it is the SPEED of the cube.
But if you compare what you are seeing to the short-cuts list then you can see how easy it is to setup.

btw, ctrl are knobs or the x-fader and note are the buttons

Wow- thanks- not sure what any of it means right now but I guess I will. Have you ever gotten scared you would lose all your data or something would get wiped out?

I think i understand what you said about the the video fx parameter being only the first one. Do you predict this being expanded in the future?

thanks,

p.s.

your date 7/9 is my b-day!!!
lucky me!

No because I have a back up... btw that's what I use on my home PC, my mobile gig settings are alittle different and my club settings are different. All these settings are stored in the midi.xml file in the VDJ folder. So make a copy and never worry.
