Can anyone suggest a soundcard for a laptop that will let me prelisten to songs using headphones.

You can use any 4 channel sound card, I use Sound Blaster Live 24-bit USB and it is around 70 euros. If you wonna go with TCV's than ESI U46DJ is your best choice, around 170 euros.

If you are not using Time Coded Vinyl go with the Echo Indigo. It is a PMACIA Card with two out puts. One for monitoring the other goes to the house speakers. it costs $179.
