Topic: Always a big day for Virtual Dj
A quick shout out to say Merry Christmas in VDJ land.

This was always a crushing day in support when all the Dj's got their new gear especially when it was LE and new controllers from Santa.
Not sure how many remember me from the early 2000's doing support but still at it once a week djing events, but its become a younger man's sport for the most part.
I still love it and have a trailer full of gear and video equipment now using the basics never having a need to upgrade from 7.
My god the days of forcing XP to do the impossible and making the MAC version work are finally over along with the software wars.

Big props my my old boss Stephan Clavel for what he and the dev team has done with VDJ, absolutely incredible what its become.

I will never forget that teamer trip to Paris in 2008 finally meeting all of the teamers from around the world and ripping through the streets of Paris with Stephan at the wheel of a top down Mercedes.
The Techno Parade was a once in a lifetime experience after an all nighter building the VDJ float on the back of a bare semi trailer. That was one very looong day lol.

Then it was off th the Stade De France to see Madonna in the biggest venue I've ever seen and I still have my ticket.
I am forever greatful for the opportunity that Jason (cyd3r) presented after the PDCJ days suggesting I try VDJ. As it happened I had both PDCJ and VDJ loaded and running at a gig and switched live during playback to VDJ without missing a beat never looking back as PCDJ went into a tailspin.
Another memory was being told by Andrew and Ryan that VDJ was "entry level software" when I sent them the demo, hard to believe PCDJ is still in this game. Talk about a hard crash omg.

It was quite a ride with lots of memories along with setting up and manning the VDJ booths at dj shows across the US as the "new kid on the block" and all the curiousity that went along with that.
Biggest personal loss was Rick Anderson (A Man and his Music) who shared a room with me many times at the dj shows. You never know when they are coming for you, man was he a character.

Still friends with quite a few of the old dogs on Facebook thankfully, Philly, Homeboy, Cstoll, Norway, Terry, Brendan, ConQUest, Roy, Chris Roman, Andreas, Max, Scott and so many more.

So cheers to you all the DJ's and the best in 2026, get it while you can time waits for nobody.

Peace out
Rick,

I'm a relatively young member of the VirtualDJ community (became a Pro Infinity member in 2020).

I always knew of VirtualDJ throughout the years, but unfortunately I fell victim of the downplaying of the software by others because of popularity.
I came to VirtualDJ out of frustration (Serato always struck me as Primitive (used for about 9 years til about 2020), Traktor basically neglected its userbase (used for about 3 years before 2020), Rekordbox 5 and 6 had great library features but when crawled for me used with an external and hard weird limitations like not being able to mix audio and video in the same playlist (2 years before 2020), and I wanted to be able to use the controllers I had for Rekordbox.

The switch I made to VirtualDJ in 2020 was the best decision I've made for DJ software.
I did approach the transition with preconceived ideas (from using the previous software), on how things should work but I quickly realized why that approach held me back from understanding the best ways to use the software.
Once I tried to understand the way functionality was presented and why, it was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had with DJ software, and this software really tries to be the ultimate tool for what professionals really want.

On top of that, this is probably the only software that has a community that actively have devs interacting on issues, in addition to persons genuinely trying to help.
Because of this, it felt natural trying to give help, and not being afraid of making mistakes/incorrect statements because ultimately, I'll learn I was wrong and understand how to use the software better because of it (I do apologize for misunderstandings with members, the aim wasn't to belittle, it was to help always).

Keep doing what you guys are doing, it's really appreciated.

Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy New Year 🎆

Hope you're doing well Rick :)

100% agree with you. Impossible to forget these days at the same time as the Lehman Brothers bank crisis. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

My journey was a bit different to get to VDJ... From 1981 to 2006, I stayed with vinyl and then moved to Scratch-Live. I was aware of VDJ & PCDJ software and even messed with it a bit but saw it as lacking back then. 2014, I got a DDJ-SR and started making the transition to a controller from my 1200's. A couple of years ago, I was getting frustrated with Serato Video and downloaded VDJ. I was in for a shock... I realized just how far VDJ had come. Now, I use a Rane Four with VDJ exclusively for all my gigs. What I don't get is why some DJs give VDJ a bad rap (Serato snobs, maybe). The help I have received from all in the forums, made the transition to VDJ easier. Like DJ VINYLTOUCH, I had those same preconceptions on VDJ and skins (trying to make it look like Serato, LoL). I finally decided to learn the different organization of VDJ and I use the Vanced GT skin (modified the menus a bit). To me, the snappy load-time, video, stems and flexibility of VDJ should be more than enough to make the move to VDJ... My hope is that VDJ continues to make advancements long into the future and does not stagnate like Serato did.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Blimey, that was a trip down memory lane. I started computer DJing in 1998 with Virtual TurnTables (VTT). In 2002, when Windows XP was introduced, (VTT) wouldn't run on it, so I switched to PCDJ. I used that for a few years, I was DJ Soulman on their forums and knew Ryan. I jumped to Traktor in 2005/6 for a year. I was interested in Video and VDJ 7 was the only software doing it. I switched and have been here ever since. :-)
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all :-)

P.S. In the New Year I will have been DJIng for 50 years!!! I'm 74 now and only do a handfull of gigs each year, just can't leave it lol.

Ah DJ history time, is it? LOL

I started on vinyl in the late 70s, on turntables like the ubiquious Garrard SP25, then got my hands on a pair of used Technics from a club in the 80s (which I still use). Started using CDs in the 90s, then on a trip to PLASA one year I got to meet Jorgen Hedberg demonstrating his DJ software - on a computer!

Bought that, and a Numark DMC1 serial interface controller, and off I went. Stuck with PCDJ for a while (PCDJ Red was very highly regarded) but PCDJ FX was unreliable and Reflex never got finished.

VDJ was on my radar since the early days, but those initial versions did look a bit cheesy!

I've tried the rest, now I use the best ©

Happy Holidays :-)

BTW does anyone else remember a guy called PeeCee and his yellow furry DJ box?

Good to hear from you Rick, and sorry to hear about AMAHM, his wit and charm are sorely missed on the forum these days.

Just looked back and I started with VDJ on 9th June 2008 and been here ever since. My DJ journey started with vinyl in 1985, went all CD in 1993 then got my first DJ laptop in 1999. PCDJ red, then BPM Studio then VDJ.

At the age of 59 I'm still gigging every week and really embracing new tech and the amazing features the VDJ team bring to us on a regular basis.

Nothing else comes close to VDJ and I'm glad it's been a part of my life for the past 17 years. Here's to the future!

Techno parade? Interesting. Tell me more!
