Just moving across to a new mac & was wondering if you want to share any lessons/best practices for making the transition as smooth as possible, Is there a good or bad way to do it?

So depending on how you have your old laptop setup and how you want your new one to be setup, one thing that should be easy and should work is Migration Assistant. Depending on how far along you are with your new laptop, you might consider kind of starting over. Migration Assistant was really good, then got really bad, but seems to be working well again. You can set it to only transfer over your individual user, and that SHOULD keep all your VDJ stuff in tact on your new laptop.
FWIW, I just bought a new laptop earlier this year, and Migration Assistant is what I used to transfer stuff. For me, it worked great.
