How are you getting pops and clicks if VDJ won't run? It's understandable that if VDJ won't run, you can't mix...
You need to provide a lot more information. Are you on Mac or PC? Spec of computer? Which version of VDJ (exactly) are you using? 32 bit? 64 bit?
Pops and clicks are usually related to audio buffer size. Try adjusting accordingly.

If asio driver, simply set higher buffer in the driver panel
(or inside VirtualDJ at latency in settings).
Can try 256 or 512, usually values that works for most.
And can try these tools to check what prevents real-time audio at your computer if still having pops/clicks
