Hi there,

Having done some searching for an answer, I'm coming to the forum hopefully for a definitive answer. I am considering a A&H Xone 23C, to use as my main mixer, to run my 2 x Technics 1210's and Denon 3700's. I want to use my 1210's for regular vinyl and DVS using VDJ timecode vinyl. My research has revealed that you have to switch the cables around "under the hood" to enable DVS.

So my questions are (sorry if a bit basic):

1. Once the under the hood re-wiring has been done, will I basically click the button in VDJ to move between timecode and ordinary vinyl ? If so, will this mean the ordinary vinyl is digital (completely processed by VDJ) or analogue ((sound goes direct from 1210's into mixer)

2. I read somewhere that the DVS re-wiring means you lose access to FX send/return. Really basic question, but does this mean I will only be able to use to hardware FX built into the mixer when using DVS and/or ordinary vinyl?

Thanks in advance, look forward to hearing the replies !

Did you read the Xone 23C manual?

I just had a look at it, and it seems to me that this mixer would not be the best choice if you wanted to swap between DVS and normal vinyl - because you'd have to open up the mixer every time to move the internal cables.

I'm sure there are mixers around that can be changed easier than the 23C - either with a switch on the mixer or a util/driver software config.

Thanks for the reply!

Having made some more enquiries, if I went for the mixer, I would get it professionally modded with an external switch. They would be doing a full rotary mod at the same time.

So that would overcome no.1, but could anyone answer no.2 for me please ? As well as confirming that VDJ can be used with the Xone23c (when in DVS mode)

Sorry to clarify my previous post, the company I've approached 're the rotary conversion will put in a switch added to the mixer, so I can switch between DVS and regular vinyl.

So my questions that I'd welcome your input on are:

1. Will VDJ accept the mixer for timecode and DVS ?

2. Will VDJ still be able to send effects to the control vinyl in DVS mode on the mixer?

Any help would be greatly received !

Yes VDJ will "accept" the mixer. Any mixer that has a driver for whatever operating system you're using will work in VDJ. If the OS can see it, VDJ can see it.

When you're using TCV you're controlling VDJ with the timecode signal, so all the audio (including effects) will be coming from VDJ.

No effects get sent from VDJ to the vinyl. There's no point - vinyl cannot process effects.

As for 2, you will still be able to use vdj fx or vsts while using dvs but (this bit is an educated guess) it will have to be prefader fx.

why dont you get a traktor Z2? you can connect both 1200 DVS/vinyl+ 1 deck 3700 using cd timecode
if you use linein to a channel you can have vdj FX, vinyl input, microphone, and use FX
