when i open vdj it asks me if i want to update so i click on yes it looks like it is updating then comes back with message automatic update faied do you want to try again

Have you tried to update it manually?
I mean by downloading the new installation file on the site and over-install it on your machine?
Maybe this is a bug occurring from your last installation...?
(Make sure you don't have moved any important source files during or after the last installation.
Otherwise perform a new & clean installation and install it with the recommented paths)

Mine is doing the same thing. I finally gave up and clicked on "No" for the update so I can use the program. Been working fine for years, so this installer version must have a bug in it.
