if i wanted to import my entire collection into iTunes, would i need to have the hdd space to do so?

i have approx 1.2tb of music and 128gb macbook air.

Yup, if you don't import everything in to iTunes it basically makes another copy of everything from what I know about it.

I personally don't like iTunes and their always changing things.

Itunes - Preferences - advanced - put away the mark before: copy files to 'Itunes media' when adding to library
After you did this, nothing is copied when added to the library.

(hope my translation is ok, because my Itunes is in Dutch)

Correct. If you choose the right settings, iTunes will not create duplicate files. It will just add the info to its database.

thanks guys, i know this is a belated reply but ive bee pretty busy with life stuff. ill check out the recommendations in settings. one other issue i have considered is, will iTunes sort them based on their metadata? or will it sort them based on its own accord?
