You cannot choose soundcards in the demo.
Your problem is known by the team, but they don't know how to resolve it for the moment.
This problem has been post in many forums so be patient, they would surely fix it in future releases.
Solution for the moment: Go to the skin chooser and take a skin 800x600, then you rechoose your skin, and it would work again.

And I read on the French forum than the fault is from the HT -> I've a P IV 2.4 Ghz, working like a bi proco
