Topic: External Camera

Have external camera connected, Macbook, cam is showing in effects and when i click on effect blue "on" light illuminates on webcam and goes out when i click on effects again but im getting just a dark blank screen...no image. Any ideas please otherwise im giving up on 8 and sticking with 7!!...Thanks
