I just replaced my hard drive, and am now reinstalling all my software including VDJ 8. When I downloaded and installed it, everything went as before. However, when I go to run the program, I get no response. I have double clicked the icon, right clicked and selected run as well as run as admin, gone through the compatibility troubleshooting, all to no avail.
It worked fine before I changed the hard drive.

please check Videocard driver and make sure there are no generic drivers used.
Please install the latest directX9 packages:
DirectX 9C Runtime:

DirectX update will probably not help you. Please update (or re-install) drivers for your graphics card.

Impossible to say based on the information, but often it's driver issues that can bring a PC down like that

it plays for just a few minutes but then the system freezes and shuts down

Best guess is heat without other information. Laptops are designed to shut down when they get too hot. Supply your hardware specs.
