I require Auto play to have a "pause" or silent break function between tracks and the length of the break to be variable. This is necessary for ballroom dancing. I am required to be away from the desk while the music is playing.

Your best bet (actually the only way I can think of) is to make a silent track with audacity and repeatedly put it the playlist

Hi Swingcat, as another option you could also record 16seconds(or however many) from within vdj and use that as a puffer inbetween songs, I use this method to alter the start point on the first song in my playlist sometimes. You just have to manually place the AM poi's at the beggining and end of the recorded silence.
