please check if you have generic drivers installed for your video card.
Sometimes the OS uses default drivers instead of the original manufactures drivers ( e.g after a update).
If generic drivers are installed V8 will not launch.

Really? That's a strange thing to do IMO.
If the OS has started up and shows the desktop, runs other software etc. then why should it be a problem for VDJ to use them?
